PS concerning a Batch 03:

From what I've heard we haven't seen any new J-15 at SAC since some time, but it seems as if there might be a new J-15 in yellow primer on 7 October (however the satellite image is of so low quality, that it also could be an a J-15D that's still hanging out there). Otherwise the most recent image of SAC dated early November shows 5 yellow Flankers but they clearly have no canards and are therefore most likely J-16s.

Speculation: Since the existing planes 01-24 seem to be training center planes, and NOT an air wing for the Liaoning, I would expect in the near future (a few years) that not only 002 carrier gets new planes but also 001 get them as well. So then these 24 planes would remain for pure training and, if need be in a war, as a replacement squadron.

Indeed, I fully agree and therefore I expect a third batch - if there indeed will be one - much larger than just another 12 or 24 J-15s.

J-15D with yellow primer now is a bit strange, considering pictures of J-15D with grey paint were on the internet some point in February this year meaning that (at least one of the) testing aircrafts won't be still in yellow now...

Thanks for posting by78. Excellent choice of photos..Does anyone know how many J-15 tankers does the PLAN have? Thanks. Are the tankers shore based? How can they launch from the ship with a "full bag of gas" without a catapult?
