It lacks the tilt rotor and also vertical lift F35B

However the Type 075 gives China much more capability than Type 071 LPD

longer range from where it can launch its marines and equipment

It looks like they are cranking out 8 type 075 instead of more type 071, at just a little higher price, but with much more capability.

ASW carriers are more important, being a hard counter to submarines. USN has either the best or the second best undersea fleet in the world, it would be risky to fight head on.

A LHD with VTOL fighters would be vulnerable to submarines, and there’s nothing the planes on it can do that a land launched J-20 can’t. In fact, they’re individually worse.

Stacking the undersea domain in PLA’s favor is more important than further stacking the air domain.

ASW carriers are important, but the 075 presumably does not have the speed like the DDH Izumo (or perhaps it does?) to chase subs. It can not even keep up with a carrier strike group to provide cover. The fact it has a well deck instead of a larger hangar also suggests it’s emphasis is on amphibious warfare. As a result I am puzzled by the suggestions one of the 075’s primary missions is ASW.

Given how efficiently China can build ships like the 075, PLAN could have another dedicated ASW / VTOL carrier variant (30+ knots, with VDS, deck edge elevators, larger hangar, no well deck) in addition to the 075. Something like the Izumo is better equipped for the task.

Why not? For every 071 exactly one 075 to work as a team.

Let get this straight, these ships are intended to carry PLA Marine Corps Task Forces overseas, and make no mistake, the PLA MC is already growing in size not for fun but rather to prepare for Expeditionary format. Type 075 is designed just for that along with 071. While 075 will be able to provide an air-wing to the Task Force on board. This means that in the next decade, PRC will be able to deploy Quick Reaction Forces and be a truly global player.

I highly doubt that the main purpose of the type 075 is ASW, if it was the case then they could have built something much cheaper & much more effective that could be aqquired in much greater numbers, they could have just built a cheap 8k tonne dedicated ASW destroyer, it would carry 6 helicopters, 4 medium range cruise missiles, HQ-10 & a 76mm gun.

it is said that the 071 is about as cheap as the 054A, so most likely this kind of a ASW DDG would be as cheap as that because it would lack any major armaments.

Panels attached near the Type 726-1 ESM unit. They look like AESA type arrays, but these are not radars. More likely they are high speed digital data communication units similar to those you see with base stations, with MIMO and such. Closest to what I can think these arrays are used for is CEC or Cooperative Engagement Capability with other ships (sharing sensor information) and with aircraft, drones and helicopters back and forth. CEC with helicopters would make sense if the helicopter would show a round type blister underneath its belly, just like that naval Z-20 in another thread.

The Type 726-1 ESM unit looks a bit different from the latest ones placed on the Type 056A and 052D batches. Possibly yet again a new revision.
