I was hoping that it'd be a bit bigger with a ski jump for STOVL UAVs, oh well there's always the next design.
I remember one of the big shrimps did say the first of the LHD would be in the 30+ thousand ton full load class and the follow on would be in the same class as the Wasp. I belief this because this is China’s first LHD. The US went from the Iwo Jima to the Tarawa to the Wasp and finally the America

I agree with Bltizo about all this unnecessary juvenile chest-thumping exercise. At the end of the day, the Type 075 design satisfy the PLA-N requirements. Aside from what Bltizo already mentioned, what's stopping the PLA-N from using the first two carriers for STOVL aircrafts, and leave subsequent carriers for non-STOVL aircrafts in the future? Yes the first carrier currently has been designated for training purposes, but I doubt it would be restricted to it once the PLA-N have more capable carriers.

Is there ever a diminishing returns when it comes to size for LHD and carriers?

Personally 750' length and 30k tonnage is perfect for LHD that doesn't need to field STOVL fighters.

Minimum sizes and weight:

Helicopter destroyer no well deck: 600', 15k

STOVL escort carrier no well deck: 650'
20k

LHD well deck: 650' 20k

CATOBAR reverse angle: 700' 35k

STOVL LHD with well deck: 750' 35k

STOBAR: 850' 40k

CATOBAR: 900' 50k

I think the type 075 is easily above minimum size for LHD with well deck.

The Izumo is also longer than the 075 despite having smaller displacement (likely a result of internal cross section and/or draft of the ships.

What makes the Chinese and US boats displace so much? The Izumo apparently has a beam of 38 meters (vs 32m for Wasp class), length of 248m and draft of 7.5m (8.1m for Wasp) but displaces just 27000t vs 41000t for Wasp. America class (32m beam) without a well deck displaces 46000t.

If lenght is 248 meters, then width in the waterline is 30 meters. And that seems to be realistic.

Unclear, but all sources I could find (and I did quite a bit of searching) quote 38m. I see that Jeff Head put the beam at 110ft=33.5m? But based on that drawing, your estimate seems plausible.

They might be waiting for the 003s conventional IEPS system before venturing into even larger LHDs, to make sure they are worth the cost.

The two dimensional size of the deck doesn't determine the displacement, it's the three dimensional volume of the hull determines the displacement. That's why some of the cruise ships are no longer or wider than a Nimitz class carrier, but they can have three times the displacement.

Both Chinese 075 and American Wasps and America are designed to transport as much as possible in their hulls. That's why they all look like bathtubs with almost vertical sides and rear. Whereas, Izumo is basically an aircraft carrier that's been called something else for the sake of law.
