Hong-Kong Protests

It will be hard, most Hong kongers lack the linguistic ability, ie mandarin and simplified chinese, to work in the mainland. There is also plenty of talent that is equal or better that companies can pay less for in the mainland, so why bother.

Actually linguistic isn't a problem for internships or working in mainland as many people in Shenzhen and Guangdong can speak or at least understand Cantonese. Many retired HKers live in Shenzhen or Guangdong nowsaday. Although living or working in China doesn't mean these HKers would be less brainwashed. The problem in HK right now is the education and media. Many kids and teenagers were brainwashed when they attended kindergarten, elementary, and high schools. By the time they attended colleges or worked, it is too late.

In the end of the day, the problem in HK is that the ruling elites are mostly bureaucrats not politicians. That's why HK politicians are cowards. Many people have warned the HK government that there are fundamental problems in HK education but nothing was done not even now. Carrie Lam is weak and gutless. The only thing she has done is hidden behind the HKPF. She doesn't dare to confront the schools that allowed students to participate in the protests or the media which is obvious bias or the judges who made rulings that are absurd.

Many of the rioters are said to be students in their late teens or early twenties, which is prime university age. If they are good enough to make it to university -- even a Hong Kong university -- they will probably have little trouble learning Mandarin and simplified Chinese.

What if Beijing subsidizes the jobs, even to the extent of actually making it profitable for mainland companies to hire young Hong Kongers for a year?

I would add that in addition to the internship program, Beijing should consider establishing a strong media presence in Hong Kong. There is no need to spread some propaganda; they would only have to tell the truth, that Hong Kong actually has a bright future in the highly technological Shenzhen area. In fact, the whole Pearl River Delta region will be an economic powerhouse.

Subsiding a company to hire a specific group of people that may not even appreciate it.... Sounds like a good plan to get mainland students angry.

What the central government should do is reform the entire Hong Kong education system to be like the mainland one, abolish the court system left by the Brits and English common law, and also take away the business license of any company that support treasonous activity.

Most people on Shenzhen don't acctually speak Cantonese because they are immigrants from other parts of the country. And why should mainland China change to accommodate Hong Kong? It's the other way around

These rioters don't want to learn Mandarin or simplified Chinese. The ones that are willing to learn would have already learned them. I don't think you understand these teenagers as they think simplified Chinese is a locust language.

Most media in HK are controlled by business tycoons just look them up. SCMP is owned by Ma but it is as anti-China as you can get. RTHK is owned and funded by HK government but it is as bad as Appledaily. HKers love gossip and have been this way since the 90s. Fake news are much more entertained than the truth. Pro-China media can't survive in HK unless these media become more entertaining. Li Ka Shing and his sons already controlled a few of the media such as 信報(Hong Kong Economic Journal) and Now TV.

Who said anything about accommodation? All I said is for the HKers who want to work and live in Shenzhen and Gunagdong, the whole pearl river delta economic zone is already making things very easy for them.

It was a double reply to u and nutrien.
If u want HKers to freely work and study in mainland, then HK must reciprocate for mainland students and remove visa requirements. Want to see a bigger protest? Tell the rioters it will be open season starting tomorrow for mainlanders to go to Hong Kong and buy and own anything they want.

Got it. There are actually many mainland students in HK universities with full scholarships especially for the graduate programs due to the fact that many HK students are not competitive and lazy.

The subsidy does not have to be a blatant bribe. It could be a tax break, for example.

As for getting mainland students angry, I doubt that will happen much. The Hong Kongers will be so few (compared to the mainland) that they will not be noticeable.

If the internship pay is good enough, they will be very willing to learn Mandarin.

This is why I want to open it up, as I said in my original message. Get the young Hong Kongers out of Hong Kong. Let them go where they can learn the truth.

Pro-China media can't survive in HK unless these media become more entertaining.

The pro-Beijing media can last as long as necessary, if they are subsidized by Beijing. Besides, if they consistently tell the truth, the people will notice. The pro-mainland media could even become profitable!
