How can you be sure that DDG-161 was not yet commissioned when this photo was taken?

You are linking to the Dafengcao tweet in September 12, 2018 saying Hohhot is commissioned, and yet that's the very same photo of the crew "retiring".

The commissioning of 161 took place in January 12, 2019. This is a dual ceremony with tanker 984.

It also checks out with the table at the Chinese wiki page.

What? I posted only one example. Nothing I posted or linked was from before 2014.

Kunming was commissioned in 2012, the article is dated in 2014. You need to check it agan.

How can you be sure there is a policy regarding where commissioning ceremonies are held, much less that it was changed? How do you explain all the commissioning ceremonies held at naval bases before 2014?

I am explaining commissioning ceremonies held after 2014. Look again at the examples I have already given.

Why do they need to be explained when there have been plenty of commissioning ceremonies at naval bases before 2014?

I did not say anything about commissions before 2014, but certainly after the Kunming, and as time goes on, you are not seeing a lot of commissionings on shipyards. From the example of the Xining which was made in JIangnan, that it wasn't commissioned in Jiangnan, but at Qingdao or Lushunkou. This is an important example because this happens to be a North Sea Fleet destroyer which 120 Chengdu is certain going to be.

In fact the only reason I think the Kunming was commissioned at Jiangnan, and probably the only 052D being so, is that it was the first of its class so it was kind of a very special event.

You did by implying that commissioning ceremonies held at naval bases are the "result of a new policy that was enacted after 2014":
Xining is from Jiangnan Shipyard and it was commissioned in a base of the North Sea Fleet, as you can see from the surroundings and the blue water around it, which is definitely not Shanghai. The change of venue can be a result of a new policy that was enacted after 2014.

If Kunming's being commissioned at a shipyard is exceptional or special, then you imply that commissioning at naval bases is the norm, correct?

There were a number of commissionings done at shipyards, but the number has heavily shifted to naval bases over time. Liaoning for example, was commissioned in Dalian shipyard.

Yes. In addition to that, many shipyards are not suitable locations to hold commissioning ceremonies for the lack of parade space. Guangzhou Huangpu and Hudong Zhonghua for example.

Could we not have posted a lower resolution photo ?

What a terrible camera someone is using

Tell him to get a Huawei P30 Pro, just like Robert Downey was caught using, despite being paid as the OnePlus spokesman.

Posted by LKJ86 at the PDF, however, this is not his artwork, but the work of a CGI artist that has made depictions in the past.

Some mistakes here.

1. On the 052D, its missing a datalink or satcom bulb that is located on top of the hanger. He didn't forget to put the datalink on the DL however.
2. On the 052DL, the ESM has more of a capsule shape than a cylindrical shape. This new ESM model has also appeared in the second block of 052Ds just before the DL and is being retrofitted on the 052Cs.
3. On the 052DL, I think the new "meshy" VHF radar array seems bigger and thicker.

There are new circular comm arrays being retrofitted on the top of the bridge deck on 052Ds and 052Cs, and does not appear to be installed on the 052DL, but retrofitted later. We can excuse that on new builds, but I feel no CGI drawings should be complete without them from now on if only for the sake of academic accuracy. The locations of these antennas differ ship to ship but two of them are generally located on top of the bridge in different positions ship to ship, and one ship in particular (161 Hohhot), three more are added between the two satcoms under the Type 517M array.

Cool shot.

This has to be inside the fitting pool, if the new Yuan Wang space tracking ship is in the left plus the LCAC in the foreground is a bonus.

Two new 052DLs or its it 052DGs, on the right side of the picture.
