I guess. I am assuming the turbines are the major portion of the cost of the vessel. I could be wrong though. Perhaps it is electronics and then it makes more sense to use the larger vessel.

If crew is the major funding issue in upkeep costs then the larger vessel is better.

Turbines are the most expensive parts of the ship? Are you serious?

The electronics are pretty much always the most expensive components on these types of frontline surface combatants, unless you are the navy of Lesotho or Mongolia. We are of course talking about the cost of simply building them.

Well the Type 052D has like half the gas turbine engines of the 055 but more than half the VLS cells.
The main disadvantage is the amount of crew per ship but manpower is not exactly an issue China has.

I still don't understand what this statement means. Could you break it down? If it helps, you may assume the gas turbines are the most expensive components of the ships.

Why don't they use a darker colored type of paint on the navy ships?
Does the colour still matter these days? Ships will be spotted by radar far away before eyes (with telescope) can see them. Even for identification by friendly ships in close formation, there is no single colour fitting every situation. For example, in bright light and clear day, or a foggy cloudy days, which one is better, darker or lighter?
