It’s the Protection racket. China pays so they get “Insurance” for now. Those who don’t or worse put up a fight well they are targeted.
I don't believe for a milli-second that China should be worried of "Iranian seizure".
What I am very concerned is the repetition of by the "world police" in a long-arm "jurisdiction" according to domestic law against Chinese ships heading to or departing from Iran. The very recent hostage taking in Canada does imply that the same thing happens. I do hope PLAN's anti-piracy task force does keep an eye to the area to prevent another state piracy.
Even if a seizure does not happen, a "mistake" can happen like 1999.

That was a sarcastic quip at how Brumby seems to think that Iran won't discriminate in its targets and thus Chinese ships are at highest risk due to volume and how Terran seems to think that China had paid Iran "protection" fees to keep its ships safe. Unequivocally, I think both are nonsense.
I believe that in the 1993 Yinhe incident, what made the Chinese ship stop was that the US cut off GPS guidance; they could not forcibly board it. Because Yinhe could not sail without GPS, she eventually agreed to follow US ships into port at Saudi Arabia for inspection. This launched China's efforts to develop Beidou. Today, a Chinese ship would just sail on into Iran with Beidou; no other country has any authority over it.
