J-15 carrier-borne fighter thread

It would be just like any other blockade. You would inspect ships and those headed to China wouldn't be allowed to pass or at least certain contents could be forbidden from transit.
I think the use of a carrier in the Taiwan scenario is kind of limited. You would likely be better off with more air refueling capacity I think.
So while the surface fleet would be really important as an escort to the marine landing operations I think the aircraft carrier's use would be a lot more limited.

How can they make sure that the conflict will be limited to Taiwan strait? In case they try to choke mallaca straits China will make offer that Thailand can't refuse safe passage to Malaysia border and beyond .China will invade Thailand and Malaysia if they refused Right now China is building railway line from Boten on Laos China border to Vientianne and down to Thai border At same time they are building rail line from Laos Thai border to bankok and beyond

The same thing happened in WW Ii when they German secure safe passage to Italy thru Switerland

Do you have an idea of the sheer volume of shipping that transit the malacca strait every day? And even if the US magics up the world’s biggest coast guard there, how would they determine which ships are headed to China? I mean, it’s not like captains could forge paperwork could they?

Logistically speaking, the only place a sea based blockage of China would work is the SCS. That that would be WWII style shoot-on-sight actions rather then tedious boarding actions.

That is why the US suddenly took such an interest in the SCS, and why China went so big to win it.

China’s carrier’s are not primarily about defence of the mainland, they are primarily for safeguarding China’s growing economic and diaspora interests in the Middle East and Africa.

A certain nation who we do not need to name has a nasty habit of fermenting coups and civil wars where they loose out in economic and diplomatic competitions.

The PLAN expanded marine corps and carrier fleets are intended to prevent this country from using these old tricks to sabotage China’s BRI.

The amount of money China lost in Libya would have paid for a huge chuck of the costs of the Liaoning and Shandong, and that was before the BRI.

China is investing enormous sums abroad, if China does not also invest in the means to protect those investments, certain parties will be tempted to use underhanded means to take those investments for themselves, or to just set it all on fire just to screw with China.

Could it be true that we haven’t seen more J15 is because PLAN doesn’t have enough pilots

PDF is posting something about carrier pilots

But even then they have been going for a few years now would expect plenty of pilots for 2 Squdrons

They are training new pilots right now. There was some news about this a couple months back.
The navy trainer school even bought new L-15 aircraft.

What we have no news about is more carrier aircraft. I suspect the priority was J-16 production. But this should change I think.

I find this logic hard to bite. The issue is which one is likely the limiting factor rather than not. The route to carrier aviation qualification is via the J-15. If you have a capacity issue with J-15s then it limit your pathway in growing a pool of carrier trained pilots. To my knowledge China does not have a carrier aviation trainer i.e. a training aircraft that can land on an aircraft carrier. In other words, the first carrier landing will be on a J-15 flying solo. Conversely for the logic to hold water, there is a general shortage of pilots across all services - is there?

Yes but carrier pilots selection weeds out much bigger proportion of the pilots

If you start by taking naval aviation pilots which are much less in number than PLAAF pilot then by the time your done say 600 naval aviation recruits you are probably left with 60 carrier pilots which btw would take good few years

I don’t even think China has 60 qualified carrier pilots? Hardly enough to cover 24 x J15 ratio is more like 3:1

So adding another 24 x J15 and who will fly them?

I more and more believe 3rd batch of J15 is pointless unless they have few hundred qualified carrier pilots

The carrier construction is faster than pilot qualification

But L15 cannot land on a carrier?

So you are back to square one

Land base naval aviation is great until they start training for carrier opps

Now you are playing a totally different game

The first operational aircraft carrier is not yet in the dry dock and will certainly come to fleet in 10 years.

It makes no sense in the meantime to keep so many aircraft carrier pilots in training. A small number is enough to gain longtime experience.

I'd relax about all that, China has carrier training well in hand, really, they can find plenty of young guys who are qualified to be naval aviator's, at this stage there isn't a tremendous need, the number of J-15 isn't that large, and we are basically flying off of the Liaoning, not sure were #2 stands at present?

When China rolls out their CATOBAR carrier, lots of those little birds will just need a towbar and a "hooky thang", and we'll shoot them off the deck like grasshoppers! so China has a plan, no doubt as the carriers arrive on scene and go through their sea trials, the air wing will come right along...

So NO panic, its all cool, China is approaching this task like everything else, in a calm methodical manner, its all good, really, trust me on this!
