MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Russia’s modernized Mi-28NM attack helicopter will be fitted with a new guided missile with a range of more than 25 kilometers, an aircraft industry source told TASS on Wednesday.

At the moment, the maximum range of guided missiles used by Russian combat helicopters does not exceed 15 kilometers.

"A new missile, codenamed ‘Article 305,’ is being designed for Mi-28NM. It is intended to destroy armored vehicles and reinforced concrete fortifications in daytime and at night. The range of the missile will exceed 25 kilometers," the source said, adding that one helicopter will carry up to four such missiles on each of its two pylons.

The missile will be guided by the on-board inertial navigation system. Information about the target’s location will be uploaded into the system during the launch. The helicopter, in its turn, will receive the information from its own detection systems or from the integrated troop and weapon management system.

During the final stage of its flight, the new missile will activate the homing device to locate the target in the designated area and to destroy it.

The helicopter’s crew will receive a video signal from the missile via a protected communication channel.

TASS has been unable to officially confirm the information at the time of the publication.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told the State Duma (lower house of parliament) committee on defense on March 11 that new guided missiles with increased range have been developed for Russian attack helicopters on the outcomes of the military operation in Syria. "Thanks to our experience in Syria, our helicopters have received light multifunctional guided missiles with significantly increased range - up to 15 kilometers," the minister said.

The Mi-28NM helicopter gunship is designed to search for and destroy low-speed air targets, tanks, armored and non-armored vehicles as well as enemy manpower in daytime and at night, in all weather conditions.

The first Mi-28NM helicopter was made in 2009. Being an upgraded variant of the Mi-28N Night Hunter attack helicopter, it differs significantly from its predecessor. The Mi-28NM onboard radar equipment comprises an innovative helmet-mounted imaging and pointing system. The helicopter is equipped with an N025 radar station, which makes it possible to carry out round watch. The upgrade also has a new EW system. In addition to that, the Mi-28 NM helicopter has a modified fuselage and modernized engines; a radio-electronic onboard system and a target sight system; an auxiliary power plant and equipment for communication with unmanned aerial vehicles.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said on March 7 that the Defense Ministry planned to sign a contract for the delivery of first six or 18 Mi-28NM rotorcraft soon.

you really think the Rooskies are worried?? you surely don't do you, paranoid as hell, yes, worried?? Nyet Komrad!

so what's a marriage license worth, when you're married to a "cheater"?? I guess it would make people who don't know about the "cheating" happy??

Putin is NOT worried about the Trumpster,, in fact he's planning a victory dance for 2024, with any luck we can keep the love alive with the Pencester??,,, nah, Putin is biding his time until "team stooped" returns to the "White House", he's enjoying the preview in the US House of Representatives!

Short version:

1. In the late 1990s & early 2000s, US is worried about Iranian nuke+ICBM combination. Russia does not perceive this threat as credible, at least in the near-term.

2. ABM treaty between US and (originally) USSR is still in force at the time and precludes EU-based missile shield as envisioned then (or implemented now).

3. Rather than re-negotiate with sceptical Russians, US simply abandons treaty unilaterally, presumably figuring they can afford to antagonize a weakened Russia (2002).

4. Russia worries about impact on deterrence value of its ICBM force for MAD. US argues (correctly but irrelevantly*) that a handful of interceptors amounts to little more than a speed bump.

5. US goes ahead with deployment, Russia reciprocates by basing SRBMs in Kaliningrad aimed at missile defence sites, to clear way for ICBMs in WWIII scenario. Starts crash programme to counter missile defences, including GLCM.

6. Iranian missile programme yields successful satellite launcher in 2009, but liquid propellant (limited military value in ICBM role). To this day, no serious effort to deploy ICBM, derived or clean-sheet.

7. Russia commits INF-busting SNAFU with new GLCM, nature not clearly specified (testing long range naval version from mobile ground launcher?). US threatens to abandon INF, Russia makes luke-warm effort to allay concerns.

9. Nuclear deal with Iran removes danger of nuclear warhead, though leaves missile question unresolved. Given lack of effort noted above however, Iranian threat is effectively nullified and Russian position vindicated (2015).

10. Russian effort to dispel INF concerns dismissed as inadequate (which it is). Counter-claim that US missile defence sites also violate INF, due to LACM-capable VLS. Specious, but not necessarily more so than US accusations.

11. US throws away Iran nuclear deal despite successful implementation to date, reinforcing the view (shared by Russia) that treaties with US are worthless as they will be abandoned at a mere whim.

12. US formally withdraws from INF, Russia reciprocates. Former major beneficiaries Europe and China lodge ridiculous responses (Europe sides with US in knee-jerk reaction, China with huge arsenal of INF-busting missiles laments).

13. Moron US military officer ultimately confirms all Russian worries about US missile defence shield disrupting MAD by saying it can be re-purposed against Russia.

So there you have it, the reason why INF effectively started dying in 2002 because US moves since then have looked increasingly threatening and alienating from a Russian perspective - even those that were genuinely not calculated to be. Said Russian perspective is arguably a bit paranoid, yes, but if you accept the premise that from their point of view the US/NATO simply cannot be trusted then it's not actually irrational or far-fetched. NOTHING was done to build their confidence and bring them into the fold. NOTHING whatsoever.

* While it is true enough that a couple dozen interceptors in a non-ideal location cannot possibly harm Russia's strategic deterrence decisively, that's simply NOT what Russia is worried about. Their actual concern is that a build-up to a scale where it DOES alter the balance of power can be effected at the stroke of a pen once there no longer is a treaty limiting the deployment of missile defences. It sets an ominous precedent without any recourse, and it's precisely the fire to which that US official is adding fuel with his comment.

I am sorry, but the whole idea of this "Russia Collusion" is a load of crock and is getting pretty stale now. The only way this "Russia Collusion" claim could be made is when there is hard evidence to prove that Russia somehow benefited from Trump being elected as President of America. Which it didn't, instead Russia has endured more sanctions, American Shale killing the Oil Industry to strangle Russian GDP, challenging Russia in Syria militarily, pulling out of the ABM Treaty, forfeiting the INF Treaty and all on the bullshit pretext of Iran threat. Excuse me, but that seems more like a wolf crying boy rather than a boy crying wolf. So when you say that Putin will party come next U.S Presidential win for Trump, that sounds a bit wet dream/fantasy than anything else.

On record, the only country which has directly benefited from Trump becoming President, is Israel. Starting with the infamous decision by Trump to move the U.S Embassy from the Capital of Israel, Tel Aviv, to the Holy City of Jerusalem. A move that no U.S President has ever decided upon in the last 70 years, came to pass when (this joke of a President) Trump became President of America. Moving the U.S Embassy to Jerusalem means that America has defacto recognized the city as Israel's capital. This move has gargantuan implications for the Middle East and the World at large. 2 billion Muslims on this planet now consider Trump and along with it America, as untrustworthy with an open hostility toward the Islamic World. The significance of which America would realize in the years to come as Muslim countries distance themselves from the American state.

Besides U.S Embassy in Jerusalem, Israel has benefited from Trump when the administration announced an increase in American financial and military aid to the country. Israel by default has been receiving $3.5 billion year on year for decades. Now that amount has risen sharply, due to Trump being elected. Furthermore, Trump Administration has recently announced that America formally recognizes Syria's Golan Heights, as part of Israeli territory. This serves Israel's strategic objectives and defies all international norms and laws. Europe and Russia have unequivocally announced that it only recognizes Israel's borders based on 1967 defacto control. So the only country which has truly benefited from Trump being elected, is Israel, NOT Russia!!!

It ought to be termed as "Israel Collusion" in American elections, because the whole caca meme about Russia meddling in U.S election is just a pile of bullshit and nothing else.

I disagree with much of your post, but I gave you a like anyway.

# 1 I said Putin will be doing the happy dance in 2024, at the end of President Trumps 8 year term......

#2 you are absolutely right, there is NO Russian collusion, never was, never will be, but Trump was open to having a great relationship with Mr. Putin, and peace with Russia....

#3 Israel is an ally who has not sent Terrorists into the United States to kill and maim innocents, they remain our most faithful friend in the Middle East??

so what would you do if you were an American, we have a President who will defend this nation, thank God!

Well recently Russia's reportedly sent some troops? to Venezuela. Tensions are growing in that part of the world and looks like a new Syria-like conflict brewing up. What's Russia's agenda in the region? Not familiar with any interests of theirs located there.

The Kirov-class battle cruiser is a class of nuclear-powered warship of the Russian Navy, the largest and heaviest surface combatant warships (i.e. not an aircraft carrier or amphibious assault ship) in operation in the world.

Among modern warships, they are second in size only to large aircraft carriers, and of similar size to a World War I era battleship. The official designation of the ship-type is "heavy nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser" (Russian: тяжёлый атомный ракетный крейсер).

The ships are often referred to as battle cruisers by western defense commentators due to their size and general appearance.

I think the only 1 ship of this class is still in service. Four cruisers were built but only Admiral Nakhimov (commissioned in 1988) and Pyotr Velikhiy (commissioned in 1995 but not in service) remain active(?). Admiral Nakhimov has been in the shipyard under going a never-ending since 2006. She's not slated to return to the fleet until 2021 or 2022 depending on what article you read.. This date has been pushed back several times over the years.

Venezuela is a Russian weapons purchaser ever since Chavez was in power. Russian and Chinese companies also have made massive investments into the Venezuelan oil industry after the Europeans and the US left. Russia's "agenda" is simply to protect their investment I think. The officers Russia has sent are supposedly military technical advisors. Probably to help them either operate, service, or train their air defense systems like the S-300VM.

The Admiral Nakhimov upgrade operation is quite massive and from what I understand the government requirements changed midway through the upgrade process. Like they decided midway to replace the ship comms network from copper to fiber optics. So the delays can't be all blamed on the shipyard either. It is also rumored that midway through the upgrade process new radar and weapons systems became available, the government also changed the requirements, and that further impacted the upgrade process. Supposedly they will conduct a similar upgrade operation on another ship of the same class, probably the Pyotr Velikiy, but at another shipyard. Currently the Pyotr Velikiy is in service with the Northern Fleet stationed at Murmansk Oblast. There also rumors one of the other two ships might be upgradable but I think that is unlikely.

The Lider-class is supposed to be the replacement for the Kirov-class. The design is supposed to be finished by 2021. They already have most of the weapons systems projected to be in it in service with the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates including the UKSK missile launch system. The propulsion system and the ship size is projected to be similar to that of the Project 22220 icebreaker. For a comparison each Project 22220 icebreaker has 33540 tonnes displacement powered by two 175MWt RITM-200 nuclear reactors, while the Kirov-class battlecruisers have 24300 tons displacement powered by two 150MWt KN-3 nuclear reactors. So they definitively have the capabilities to build a Kirov-class replacement over the next decade if they do invest in it.

contains a funny mistake (funny for those who know both English and Russian):

the part in English should read

IS VITALLY IMPORTANT ... etc., not ARE ..., because it refers to владение (command, as in command of language) which is in the singular, not the plural LOL was this a part of spy games? I'm guessing somebody just meant to say

YOUR LANGUAGE SKILLS
ARE ...

and didn't pay attention to detail LOL
