071 LPD thread

I like this picture because in some ways, its symbolic of the old and the new, the meeting of a traditional naval power and the rise of a new one. This was back in 2015 when a PLAN task force visited Portsmouth, UK. The Type 071 LPD is Changbaishan, the Type 054A frigate is Yuncheng and the tanker is Chaohu. On the top of a picture is an unidentified Type 23 frigate of the RN. On the right is a sailing ship, the HMS Victory and on the bottom is the HMS Warrior.

yes I remember this one and the hanger of the LPD was used as a banquet where both sides exchanged experiences on anti-piracy missions

PLAN gave a presentation on their missions so far

was a good visit both sides were happy and overseas Chinese also came to visit

a lot of media coverage

but that was 2015 soon we can expect Type 901 tanker, Type 055 CG and maybe even Ione day a carrier

I skipped my Poli-Sci class at LSE in order to hop onto a train at Waterloo Station to see those ships, and the trip was worth my skipping.

Note the F22P frigates on the second picture on the post above.

I would assume that is the task force we have been seeing a lot about lately, which consists of a Type 052D, a Type 054A, the Type 071 and a tanker. This force moved down from the South China Seas to the Indian Ocean to arrive to Pakistan for the AMAN 2019 antiterrorism naval exercises.

Will revise that. The Type 071 in Pakistan is Kunlunshan, ship no. 998, which is currently part of the 31st Escort Task force. The Type 071 currently with the other task force with a Type 052D and 054A, is Changbaishan 989.
