Russian Su-57 Aircraft Thread (PAK-FA and IAF FGFA)

Is there any truth to claims that Su-57's fan blades are almost 100% hidden from direct view exactly head on due to offset placement.

That is an exposed engine. the only reason you don't see it in daylight images is that it's in shadow. a head on radar sweep will see that.
long term they might be able to fix that but how is the question as engines of of a high performance machine demand high Air intake. so Any blocker would have to still allow air in well trying to prevent radar.
Here is another issue.

The Engine housings. Those are also a potential Radar hot spot.

End of the Day even the Russian's themselves have stated that the PAKFA was not designed to be as Stealthy as Raptor or lightning. SU57 was not meant to be a high end LO machine it was meant for the Russian budget and conditions as such the TLC that the US and others are willing to give there machines to maintain LO coatings and systems was not a allowance for the SU57. As such they were willing to make sacrifices to balance in Russian Righter doctrine and field conditions.
The Fans call this a "Balanced Approach" To be blunt it's built on the cheap, for rough fields.
Because of there design choices with the Air-frame they have had to compensate with there sensor and defensive package. The Side facing radars for example are an attempt to install a system to expand the potential detection ability and self defence to the SU57 vs Modern potential Threats.

That's right Terran, and those are two major issues that anyone should be able to observe and have a realization that L/O is going to suffer?? so its rather mis-leading to state that nobody knows, when anyone with an interest can clearly see?? It sounds like Turkey is developing an interest which would be very helpful to the SU-57 and Sukhoi in general in the long term. I do like this airplane, I defy anyone to find a post where I've been overtly critical of this aircraft, but its not in the same class as the F-22 or F-35 when it comes to L/O technology or execution...

Turkey's interest is more bluff and bluster. Turkey wants there fifth gens now. SU57 won't be available on the export until another decade has passed. Turkey has sunk a lot of Treasure and brain into the F35 and they want it for mission sets that SU57 cannot compete in.

Seems there's not much choice for Turkey if it wants 5th gen fighter in near future. Su-57 and J-31 have not enter serial production, J-20 is not for export. Why not Turkey just go with 4++ fighters, like the Su-35, Silenced Super Hornet or Silenced Eagle? Why Turkey must go with true 5th gen fighter while its potential enemies don't even have a decent fighter?

They already have a decent 4+gen the F16, And trying to get Advanced Hornets or Silent Eagles would likely run into the same wall. Su35 is a option but if they already have F16. They want the next step up for both ground based and LHA based, and none of those can Vtol off a short deck.

Here are some of the patents. They definitely don't want S-ducts to hide the fan blade. Doing so will totally screw up the weapons bay arrangement. It is a design choice.

The Russians just bought 48 more Su-35's when they could have bought Su-57s?? they've got a firm order for 12 Su-57's, shows a lot of confidence in the Su-35!

I can assure you with absolute confidence, the F-35 is more than a match for any Russian fighter or anti aircraft missile system, and a formation of F-35s will no doubt "take down" those air defenses, so if Russia is not buying the Su-57's by the gross?? there's a reason why.
Yet a Su-30 want about 40 millions $ a Su-35 70 and Su-57 about 100 ...and possible more for first always more expensives qty matter...
After the F-35 is clearly more stealth especialy for frontal RCS the more important and USAF going to have 1760 vs how many Su-57 ...
Despite it Su-30SM and Su-30 are very good birds and stealth don't mean invisible, invulnerable and can be buy in enough big qty by Russia it is not the case for Su-57...

Quite sure Russian AF have to max 100 - 150 Su-57 in ~ 2025 and keep ordered Su-34/35, Su-34 certain a new batch.

Erdogan is trying to "leverage" his buy, remember Turkey shot down an SU-25 after repeated incursions and warnings, having enough they shot it down....sadly radicals killed the two pilots, creating a massive crisis... Putin puts Turkey at the top of the people we really, really hate list!

However, an attempted coupe-de-eta, ratchets Erdogan's paranoia off the chart, (yes some of it is real), (yes we do have an exiled cleric living here), but we DID NOT want or stage a coup... Putin, the consummate business man, see's a massive opportunity, and begins to warm up to Erdogan, and play him like a fiddle, offering him the S-400, which is comforting to President Erdogan, as he no longer trusts the US/NATO and blames them for coup, and now needs Russian S-400 to protect himself from US...

So Erdogan accepts Putin't grand offer, and orders the S-400, knowing this will really "piss us off",,, yep, it does, as Turkey has been one of our oldest and most reliable Middle East Partners. If you have any doubt the massive F-35 prime and subcontractor status is proof positive,,, the fact is you can't allow the Russians to "pick apart" the F-35's defenses..

L/O or "stealth" is like a master magician, "now ya see it, now ya don't",, in reality it is "smoke and mirrors"! Is he here, is he there, like the "colonist's hiding in the weeds, against King George's military formations", if they can't see you, they won't have much luck shooting you??

Its a huge problem for us, but one the Senate has choosen to take on head on,, and its a big problem for Turkey as well, that F-35 partnership has already enriched Turkey, (Turkey has enough cash to buy more F-35s than Australia), but we won't allow our baby to be jeopardized, and we won't!

All that to say, that while the Su-57 is Not Turkeys first choice, their move toward Putin/Russia, will likely take them out of our orbit, and out of F-35 partnership. So unless there is a "change of heart", they've made their decision.

The Turk's could bring the Su-57 into the real world, they are a much more reliable partner than the Indian's would have ever been, and would bring a new legitimacy to the Su-57! I'm rather certain that Russia would be happy to have Turkeys help and support in the region, that friends is a "game changer" of the highest order, so this is an "attractive deal" for both potential partners.

Yep, that's why I believe Russia is happy to "court" Turkey, and Turkey would be a big help to Russia in turning the Su-57 into a very high end aircraft...
