This article mentions a meeting of the US house intelligence committee with experts, one of them rick fisher. It mentions that china has 396 ships vs 283 for the US navy and will have 550 ships in 2030. It also mentions that rick fisher said that "china has the world’s first fully nuclear-powered aircraft carrier battle group".

What do you think of this?

The article meant for the domestic audience who have little knowledge in naval matters. Ship number is a poor indicator of naval strength. A missile boat is clearly not the equal of a CVN. A slightly better tally would be to compare total ship tonnage, which the US is still ahead by a large margin.

That last sentence also doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

While what you say is true, one can also make the point that a flotilla of lets say 5 Type 055 DDGs is much more flexible, less vulnerable and can do just as much as a single Nimitz carrier, despite their total tonnage being lesser then the carrier. It is not so much as the total tonnage that a navy can procure, but rather the distribution of that said tonnage over a variety of platforms to satisfy various battlefield requirements.
Also I agree that a totally nuclear powered Chinese CBG is a ridiculous notion. The cost alone would be discouraging, let alone the technical problems of fitting nuclear power plants onto small sized combatants like a frigate.

China Willing to Assist Syrian Army in Idlib Offensive – Ambassador to Syria
03.08.2018

Although China has provided political support to Damascus and is widely expected to play an important role in Syria’s post-war reconstruction, Beijing has so far shied away from providing direct military support to the Syrian Army.

Chinese Ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin has suggested Beijing could soon deploy forces to assist the Syrian Army in its upcoming Idlib offensive, in addition to anti-terrorist operations in other parts of the country.

Speaking to Syria’s Al-Watan newspaper on Thursday, the Chinese diplomat said they are monitoring the conflict, adding that the Chinese military “is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian Army that is fighting the terrorists in Idlib and in any other part of Syria.”

A source at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told Sputnik reporter Suliman Mulhem he wasn’t aware of plans for China to militarily enter the war, but said the Syrian government “welcomed any support” in its ongoing drive to dislodge terrorists from Syria.

When questioned about the prospect of Chinese forces aiding the Syrian Army in its operation to liberate the Idlib Governorate, Chang said such an initiative “requires a political decision,” without elaborating.

Thousands of hardline Islamist Uyghur militants smuggled themselves and their families into Syria over the course of the multi-year conflict, with the bulk of them ultimately settling in Idlib province, alongside other foreign and domestic jihadists.

The Chinese government is undoubtedly concerned about the fate of these militants, as they pose a threat to China’s national security, but the deployment of a large contingent of forces to Syria would be surprising, especially as the war is nearing its end.

Instead, Beijing is likely to deploy a limited number of special forces soldiers and military advisors to assist Syrian government forces, while also working with Syria’s various intelligence agencies to prevent Uyghur militants from sneaking back into China and carrying out terrorist attacks.

China is one of a handful of states engaged in a race to deploy a hypersonic strike platform capable of evading modern missile defense systems.

A video of Sky Star-2's testing, conducted Friday by the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics in China's northwest, has emerged online, with the hypersonic vehicle said to have successfully separated from its launch vehicle and engaged in high-altitude maneuvering during its ten minute flight.

Not sure what kind of "verification" you are after, the alleged statements were made to a pro-government Syrian newspaper, so the original source would be in Arabic! But here's a non-Russian media sourced article that claims translation of excepts of the original newspaper article, with caveats, from an "organisation" that proports to be pro-American (pro Russian/pro American who can tell the difference these days!)

China has successfully developed and tested a cutting-edge waverider hypersonic aircraft, according to the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics in Beijing.

The academy, part of the State-owned space contractor China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, announced on Friday that the first flight test of its Starry Sky 2, which it calls the nation's first hypersonic experimental waverider vehicle, was conducted that day in the early morning at an unidentified testing field in northwestern China, adding the test was a "huge success".

Waverider is a hypersonic aircraft that has a wedge-shaped fuselage designed to improve its supersonic lift-to-drag ratio by using shock waves generated by its own flight as a lifting surface.

The hypersonic vehicle was lifted atop a solid-propellant carrier rocket and was then separated from the rocket before flying on its own propulsion system. During its independent flight, it maintained an ultrafast speed of Mach 5.5 to 6, or 6,732 km to 7,344 km per hour, for more than 400 seconds, according to a statement from the academy.

By comparison, the cruising speed of the fastest commercial airliner in active service -- the United States' Boeing 747-400ER -- is about 933 km/h.

In the test, the waverider reached an altitude of 30 km and carried out large-angle maneuvers. The vehicle obtained much data and verified a host of advanced technologies, such as the domestically developed heat-balance thermal protection system, the statement said.

The academy explained that the project is a research endeavor sponsored by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp and intends to demonstrate new aerodynamic technologies, noting the design of Starry Sky 2 took three years.

The test marked the first time China has officially confirmed its research and development in waverider, a futuristic concept that can be turned into a hypersonic strike weapon capable of evading all existing air-defense networks.

The US and Russia have been researching and testing waveriders for years, aiming to make use of such vehicles' great potential in military applications.

Though China had not revealed its efforts in hypersonic vehicles before Friday's test, Western media reported that the country has designed at least one type of such craft, which Western analysts call WU-14 or DF-ZF, and has performed several flight tests for it.

For the first time, China will send out its massive troops internationally to fight for its security and economic interests as it ready to send 8000 troops to fight in Syria to wipe out US supported ISIS, not allowing them to gain control of the critical oil fields.

Extremely unlikely even if covert (China has already officially denied this report, see below) given China's non-intervention stance and the web of foreign forces already intervening. Police action within territory already controlled by the Syrian government, maybe.

Chinese embassy in Syria denies military force joined Idlib battle

The Chinese embassy in Syria denied a Syrian media report that "China sent military forces to participate in Syrian government's military operation during the battle of Idlib."

"China has never sent any military force in any military operation led by the Syrian government," and China firmly supports the peaceful political settlement of the Syrian crisis. But China supports Syria in its struggle with terrorism, said a statement in Chinese on the embassy's website on Thursday.

An August 1 report on Syrian newspaper Al-Watan "misinterpreted" quotes from Chinese Ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin and Military Attaché Wang Ruizheng, the statement said.

Another report by Al-Watan on August 1 said that Qi suggested Beijing could soon deploy forces to assist the Syrian Army in its forthcoming Idlib offensive, in addition to counter-terrorist operations in other parts of the country.

The Al-Watan report also quoted the Chinese diplomat as saying that "they are monitoring the conflict," adding that the Chinese military "is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian Army fighting the terrorists in Idlib and in any other part of Syria."

It is just another rehash of the suggestion of "China must sent troops to Syria" or "China has sent troops to Syria" that was up for a while a year or two ago. Nothing new.

What the Ambassador said (if he is correctly quoted) has nothing new or changed from the official stand of Chinese government since years ago. The wording "is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian Army" does not depart from "PLA maintains military cooperation with SAA" which was always said by China, especially during a visit by Syrian delegation to Beijing a year or two ago. Military cooperation can be in all sorts of forms same as "in some way".

The news is just trying to interpret the a Ambassador's words to their own favor as many has done before.

So the source (Ambassador's words) could be accurate, but the rest of the article is something you should not trust, neither do I.
