Thje P-1 is an EXCELLENT Maritime ptrol; and ASW aircraft. An excellent replacement for Japan's P-3s. I hope a few other countries will also purchase some...though the bulk of sales seem to be going to the US Navy P-8...and understandably so. It too is an excellent aircraft to replace P-3Cs with.

Looks like japan got a new ship to ship missile(based on the type 12 surface to ship missile i think). But i wonder why they don't just make a vls version for their ssm's.

Development and Development Genealogy of Guided Ship

By maximizing the results of the development of the 12 type ground - to - ship navy ballistic bombs, it was decided that from the year 2013 (Fiscal year 2013) to the year 2017 (Heisei 29 fiscal year), the successor to the 90 type ship - to - ship navy bullet (SSM - 1 B) Ship-to-ship guided munitions were developed. Compared with SSM-1B, it is possible to extend range, improve induction accuracy, and add target function update function. Estimated total development expenditure is about 5.7 billion yen [7]."

Also, from the year 2017 (FY2007) to the year 2022 by the new ship anti-ship guided bomb (17 ship versus the ship's guided bomb) based on the improved 12 type ground-to-ship guided bullet (reform) A new air-to-ship guided bomb for a patrol aircraft, which is the successor to a ship guided ship, will be developed [8] [9].
or I misunderstood?
in short: I still don't know what "new missile" are you talking about, perhaps something in development? or something existing?

The type 17 ship launched Anti Ship Missile is based on the Vertical Launch type 12 land based anti-ship missile which originated from the air launched anti ship missile ASM-1.
Like the type 12 land based ASM, the type 17 Ship launched ASM is capable of vertical launch and equipped with GPS for mid-flight target acquisition feature.

If you look at the diagram closely you'll able to follow the progression of how the missile evolved with the top layer representing Air launched version, the middle layer representing the land based version and the bottom layer representing the ship launched version.
