CV-18 Fujian/003 CATOBAR carrier thread

The article says it was the last one in service/last to be decommissioned in the USN which I think is accurate.

Unless you're counting LHDs

I second that and to avoid any doubt from the horse's mouth as it were, (guess no one can claim that the USN isn't authoritative :))

Kitty Hawk had been the Navy's oldest active warship since 1998 and turns over the title to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Kitty Hawk was also the Navy's last remaining diesel-fueled aircraft carrier.

It mentions that type 002 could have started construction in february 2016 but suspended until march 2017 with launch scheduled in 2021. It also mentions 85000t weight, and it has a photo supposedly of the construction site.

What do you make of this?

That was the state of understanding in 2016-2017, but I think the current understanding is that fabrication of modules began sometime last year.

Truth is we don't really know how far CV-18 is along.

I tend to agree that the PLAN will effectively be building 4 different designs with their first 4 carriers. Unless a more hostile environment in the near future forces them to churn out more 001A's.

A hostile environment probably encourages more, not less, risk taking, which tends to translates to a faster introduction of new designs.
