Is there a way to limit new members from starting new threads? I'm referring to the new troll that just post YouTube videos.

Say new members cant start a new thread until 50 posts or something. That should limit the trolls.

A good idea esp. since it would force the new members to carefully look at first if not already a dedicated thread exist (in most cases !).

I believe we should have the SD Rules of Behavior Thread (all of them are the same and there is on that is sticky in each forum) involved with the sign up process, with a link to it that the new user must look at (click on) and then check a box signifying they have read them and agree to abide by them as a condition for signing up to and being a part of SD.

I hope there is a way to do something like that. I believe it would help a lot.

At the very least, we should have a message during sign up directing the new user to immediately read the SD Rules of Behavior, and understand that they are expected to abide by them as a condition for being on the forum, and that the Moderators will work with them expecting them to have read the rules and that ignorance of the rules is not a defense for inappropriate behavior.

Having that taken care of, and them agreeing to it when they sign up, would go a long way in ensuring that new users understand the rules and the environment that has been established at SD and which they will be expected to utilize when visiting the forum.

1) Noticed the military ranks, fun touch!

2) In terms of politics most have mentioned it in terms of international politics, I would like to add that it would be helpful if members including mods not inject too much domestic politics either.

Give users an option to change their user names.

Right now they can change a lot of things, but thier user name is not one of these. When there is an issue, like with the bad name cunnilingus chose, he cannot change it, and others, who made typos when putting in their name have contacted me asking of they can change it

I have looked and there is no option.

In the instance above, I am going to go ahead and tell him he needs to come back with a different name and ban that name.

I would like to let the others know that you are looking into this and that if such an opportunity exists you will make it available.

Is this something that can be done?

It would be understandable to me if you chose not to allow such an option because then users on SD would never be able to keep track of who they were talking to. On the other hand, if someone made a typo, there is no way to correct it eept be deleted and come back with a new name. For longer time users, this is undesirable because they lose all of their points, etc. However in that case it could be argued that the SD community already kows them well under their existing name and they would just have to make a decision to give up one or the other.

lease let me know what you decide so I can inform others.

I don't think it is a good idea to allow users to change their usernames. It will create problems and confusion because you just know some of them will keep changing every week. And on top of that, we will have hard time figuring out if the user is multi or changed their names.

If there are special cases where the user misspelled something or just picked wrong name, I can do the changing manually, just click on contact link.
