LOL

This shows how clean the whole thing is... Simple and elegant...
You misunderstand me but completely Seriously i have this pics ready many answer opinions before for post only it enough unpleasant.

But seems an another have clean the whole thing as you say...

Iron Man and an idea Budd for SM-2 ;) SM-2 34 m cm diameter fit in a Mk-57 cell of 71 cm surely not in a Mk-41 of 55 cm what missile max size for two ?
In more easy not than with Chinese weapons !

Please post now here coz posts on 2 topics soo difficult

A longstanding assumption has been that 055 will not embark Z-18s as they would be too large. With the photographs now available, can we in fact confirm this to be the case?

Hi Forbin I am not sure what I misunderstood as I was only commenting about the pics you posted, not responding to anything you said ... in fact, I've been following this place a while now and haven't normally been able to completely understand your posts, but I do appreciate your effort here with the utmost respect.

I do think the design of 055 is very clean, and this is highlighted especially when you have the 052D right beside it for comparison. I'd be very interested to see more close-ups of the area around the main gun if anyone has any. Thanks.

To maximize the area for two missiles in a cell the idea would be to arrange the diameter of each missile tangent to the diagonal of the square.
finding the maximum diameter of each of the two circles inscribed in the unit square:

black line = red line + green line + green line + red line; mathematically:
sqrt(2) = sqrt(2)*r + r + r + sqrt(2)*r;
evaluating the radius LOL this way for doubters:

so the diameter is about 0.58

Dual packing does not make sense - these are equal size squares in a square, so it will be either single pack or quad pack or 16-pack.

HHQ9 is just a tiny bit too large for a 85cm square to quad-pack. According to some info, HHQ9 is about 45cm in diameter which requires at least 93cm square, I assume 1cm walls

Here you go:

Each pixel in this graphic is 0.5cm.
Iron Man assumed 85 cm side, so his 45 cm is of course OK
(0.85*0.58 is about 0.49)
considering:
With a little offset due to folding fin requirement.

Exactly. Quad packing means the maximum radius of the missile is 1/2 of the length of the square cannister. Duo packing means the max radius can be 1/2 of the diagonal of the square, a good bit longer (>40%), and translating to 200% the overall size if length remains the same.
but I didn't mean to nitpick LOL!

Nice math proof. The 45cm assumes folded fins and extra room for the (plastic?) spacers that the missile has to slide over while traveling out of the tube.

The photos available are insufficient for this purpose. We don't yet have a firm number on the beam of the 055.
