I read an article interviewing Joss Whedon on your point about Firefly. It was Japan and the US not China and the US at first. Whedon's wife was teaching her husband about current events and she convince him to change it to China. So Whedon was actually thinking old school

That is very interesting, because by the time of Firefly Japan had already experienced its first "lost decade" and was no longer the object of admiration and anxiety in the west as it had been in the 1980s.

I think it is an example of how people are slow to change their perceptions once they have been established, such that they often become outdated. Joss Whedon would've been 16-26 in the 1980s, an age range where our ideas about the world are established. I have heard more than once from Americans that "they used to say that Japan was rising but America is still #1 and now they say China is rising but America will still be #1". Of course it is a very silly argument, but it is one that they are evidently comfortable with.

Problem is there is not one Chinese director that can do science fiction!

True. Chinese filmmakers have a long way to go. That's why the idea I put out there was the most non political science fiction that would probably pass China's censors and reach an international audience because it would center on the artistic beauty of the future which the Chinese end could probably depict well.

Actually I would say the problem lies mostly with Chinese movie art directors, designers, and writers with regards to the setting. In real solid sci-fi the setting is a large part of the story, while being relatable the setting also needs to be convincingly futuristic which means a lot of research and thought extrapolating where today's science is headed and how it will be applied in everyday life and the world at large.

The article itself is subject to at least one likely inaccuracy due to the world changing over time. In the 1980s the Chinese urban aesthetic was most likely drawn from Hong Kong. Today it can be from Shanghai or a dozen other less internationally famous but visually more stunning Chinese cities.

What?! You are only starting to watch it now? Man! You have been late to the game! I’ve been following the DC shows on CW forever. I love them all. The crossovers are so much fun as well.

Talking about DC stuff, early critic responses to the Justice League movie have been mostly positive. The consensus seems to be that, although it has flaws, it’s a lot of fun to watch. Flash and Aquaman steal the show and Wonder Woman is perfect as usual.

I have been a huge DC fan since high school. The only Marvel stuff that I follow has been the X-men. I actually enjoyed the dark mood of the previous DC movies. I am one of the few who actually loved BvS (the theater version and the later director’s cut). So far, I have loved all the JL trailers. I will definitely go watch the JL at the theater. Maybe not this weekend because I have been swamped with other stuff. But I will find time.

Like I said before, I like the dark stuff. That’s why I enjoy Netflix Marvel shows like Daredevil a lot more than the Marvel movies. To me, the Marvel movies are so boring... I literally fell asleep while watching Avengers 2/3... on the other hand, I was on the edge of my seat while watching BvS (I know... I’m weird).

Talking bout Netflix, has anypone seen Shooter? Excellent show. It's basically a TV series stretch into 12 individual parts based on the movie of the same title. Heck I believed mark wahlberg is the director. He was the main character from the movie.

Yes, I watched the "issue" last night where "Arrow" goes to confront Malcom, Tommy's Dad, and Malcom has knocked him out and discovered who he really is...Oliver has kinda gotten back together with Laurel, and you can tell, Tommy's prolly gonna go over to the dark side??

But I've really been intriqued by the island scenes
