It IS still ways off. You may remember a member called "maya" (well known for his engine leaks) who said to fully complete the development of the WS-15 would take at least 10 yeard from the successful completion of high altitude 'core testing'. That was back in 2008/2009.

So by the most optimistic estimates, the final version of the WS-15 would be ready to be tested on the J-20 by 2019 but will takes more years for mass production.

IMHO 2025 (ish) would be a realistic date for the 1st WS-15 powered J-20B to enter service.

J-10 entered service around 2004 while the J-10B around 2013. Even if we reduce the J-20B development to 4 years that'll still be 2020+ timelines.
Ofc very difficult but this bird is a good dancer eventualy very good ?
According videos seems but difficult to see with it,

So possible have a more exact datas ?
I have see
Climb Rate 304 m/sec ? with futur engine ? all fighters 200 - 330 m/sec
STR 20°/sec with actual engine ; all fighters 12 -28 °/sec, ITR 18 - 35°/sec

And how is that data generated, exactly?

Another issue and may @huitong can help again !

I got a mail from the publishers of Air Forces Monthly since they saw that latetst high-resolution J-20 image for the Sky Hunter film.

They asked me if I would know the photographer, if I can arrange a contact and ask if they can use that image for their magazine!???

Any idea how to handle that issue and all help appreciated.

We've seen video footages of the J-20 doing tight half turn, but, AFAIK, there's no footage of the J-20 doing a sustained turn in a full circle. So, it's impossible to estimate the J-20's STR in this way.

Then it is the WS-10B with a max thrust of 1400kN kgf (137 kN). The current WS-10 series cannot exceed 14000 kgf. From what I gathered. Only the WS-10IPE and WS-15 can do that.

137 kN is fairly low compared to the 147 kN of the 117 and especially the 156+ kN of the F119. Dry thrust and supercruise is the other mystery. But at least the WS-10B gives a high priority asset like the J-20 full independence.

There is speculation that the current WS-10B has lower thrust than the AL-31 variant available to China. However, it will give the J-20 full independence from foreign parts as you've suggested. It may also be possible for them to "dope" the engines at an expense to engine-life longevity.

The real question is when is the bird with WS-10B engines going to take to the air?

Those questions can't be answered with any sort of precision. A couple of years might be one guess...

It does seem given that at least a first few regiments of front line j20 planes will be flying with Al31 variant engines. Much like the first regiment of J11B was given over with AL31 instead of ws10.

I'm guessing if the image is part of the film's marketing, then it's the property of the film's distributor, similar to the role Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox play in Western film markets. The distributor for Sky Hunter is Huaxia Film Distribution so Air Forces Monthly may consider contacting Huaxia to buy the rights to use Sky Hunter promotional material.
