I would say that even with only 112 cells the 055 will clearly outgun the Burke, KDX-2, and Kongo/Atago destroyers, and even the Slava cruisers, assuming China will soon deploy a quad-packing missile for its universal VLS. Only the Ticonderoga, KDX-3, and Kirov will be more heavily armed.
With 112 cells it is true that she has more cells than the Burke...but the Burke flight I and II ships also have eight Harpoons and are now adding an 11 cell Sea Ram to many of them. That adds another 17 cells as it were to the 90 cells they already had, bringing them up to 107. With their two helos, and the ability for those 90 cells to carry a ide variety of ordinance...I believe (really) that any of the Burks are a match for the Type 055...even with a vey less cells.

The Tico has 128 cells and eight harpoons.

The KDX III has 120 VLS cells plus 21 RAMs.

Although the Kirovs have many more weapons (which includes 20 x Shipwrecks, 96 x LR SAMs, 48 x MR Sams, and 128 short range SAMs for a grand total of 292 missiles), I do not really put their sensors or battle management in the same class as these vessels...so yes, they have one whale of a punch...but their effectiveness in today's environment is more questionable to me than these other vessels.

Still, the Type 055 is unqestionabloy the most powerful PLAN vessel, and, IMHO, the PRC will have built a modern sensor and battle management suite into it to take advantage of it in today's environment.

How effective they really are we can only guess...there is no doubt in my mind that the US, with a constantly improving and mature system has about as good an effective quotient as you can get which extends to the Atagos, the Se Jong the Greats, the Kongos, and other AEGIS vessels which take advantage of that and regularly exercise with them cooperatively.

I can't wait to see the pics of this ceremony.

Yu know they have to be out there...I just wish we could see the types of pictures...now that she is launched and that launching has been announced...that we have seen recently from the Zumwalts, the Ford, the Queen Elizabeth, the Hobarts, etc., etc.

China should, IMHO, make a really big deal out of this. It is a golden opportunity for them to help play down some of the excitement that potential competitors are getting with their new launched...and excite their people.

Anyhow...they sure showed off the new carrier (CV-17) when she was lunched and I was really hoping we would get to see this launch in the same light.
