Russian Military Transport Aviation to Receive 3 New IL-76MD-90A Planes

Commander of Russian Military Transport Aviation, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Benediktov, said that it plans to receive three bland new Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft in 2017.

Russia's Military Transport Aviation plans to receive three new Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft in 2017, Commander of the Military Transport Aviation, Lt. Gen. Vladimir Benediktov, said.
"Lat year, we received two such planes. This year, we plan to receive three aircraft… The plane's thrust-weight ratio and chassis have been enhanced. It has been equipped with more modern avionics systems. It exceeds the Il-76MD in terms of carrying capacity. The capabilities of the new aircraft have been increased by 30-40 percent," Benediktov told reporters.

According to the commander, Russia's Military Transport Aviation also plans to receive the first two Il-76MD-M planes in 2018.

"We are actively working on modernization of the Il-76MD basic aircraft. We are finishing tests at the enterprise, and next year, we plan to receive the first two models of the modernized Il-76MD-M aircraft, which will later replace the existing ones. This is a kind of an intermediate machine between Il-76MD and Il-76MD-90A," Benediktov said.

The Il-76MD-90A is a deeply modernized version of Russia's world-famous Il-76 aircraft, featuring a fully-digital flight control system, new avionics and PS-90A-76 engines with improved fuel efficiency systems. The aircraft was designed for parachuting and landing of military personnel, military equipment, cargoes, fuel and containers.

" Russia tests Zircon hyper sonic missile system, which it says makes U.S. defenses obsolete"

Russia declared today its first test of a hypersonic missile, a year ahead of schedule. Defense analysts proclaimed the test made U.S. missile defense systems obsolete.

American missile defense has been a thorn in the side of the Kremlin since the days of Ronald Reagan’s SDI, or Strategic Defense Initiative. One could argue that SDI broke the back of the Soviet Union financially and technologically and forced Gorbachev to realize the U.S.S.R. could not beat America in a missile defense arms race.

The Russian international news site Sputnik suggested the missile, named Zircon, could be installed on Pyotr Veliky, the country’s nuclear-powered missile strike ship. Analysts stated the missile concept can fly at 4,600 miles per hour — that’s 6 times the speed of sound — and would be practically impervious to missile defense systems, reported The Independent.

Military analyst Vladimir Tuchkov told Sputnik: “It (the Zircon missile system) is expected to be added into Russia’s arsenal between 2018 and 2020.”

China and Russia have searched for asymmetric weapons that can defeat American carriers that project power and missile systems that protect the homeland against foreign nuclear attack. Hypersonic missiles are part of this effort and are here to stay as a quantum leap in destructive military firepower.

Russia to resume the construction of the "last three" Project 11356 frigates in 2018

The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) will resume the construction of the last three Project 11356 frigates in 2018. Earlier, the construction of these ships was suspended due to Kiev's refusal to supply gas turbine power plants. The decision to resume the work was made following the preliminary testing of the latest Russian gas turbine units M70FRU and M90FR. According to experts, the advent of these ships will significantly expand the Navy’s capabilities in the Mediterranean Sea, the Central and North Atlantic, and the Arctic zone, the newspaper Izvestia writes.
