Sukhoi Su-30SM: Deliveries in sight

We have already touched on the subject several times; The IAPO (Irkutsk) plant is not unemployed this year.

Mainly responsible for the production of Sukhoi Su-30SM for VKS and VMF as well as Yak-130 for VKS and export customers: needless to say, this plant has a significant workload.

It is customary for IAPO to "store" the devices and deliver them in bulk at the end of the year; The 2017 vintage will more than likely deviate from the tradition given the number of aircraft already ready to join the units.

The delivery schedule 2017 provides for delivery of 17 Su-30SM units this year. As of this date, there are already no less than 7 Su-30SM who made their first flight and some already sport their definitive colors.

Let us review them;
It was the T10MK5 1410 which opened the ball "2017" by making its first flight on March 18, 2017.
It will be quickly during the month of April by T10MK5 1411 (11/04/2017), 1412 (08/04/2017), 1413 (18/04/2017) and 1414 (30/04/2017). The month of May saw the first flight of two aircraft; T10MK5 1415 (17/05/2017) and T10MK5 1416 (24/05/2017).

Apart from these dates, the first photos available already give an idea of the units that will receive Su-30SM this year.

Unlike last year when no less than half of the aircraft delivered were assigned to an acrobatic team; This year, all deliveries will concern the front-line units.

In the first place, VMFs will receive several Su-30SMs, at least two of which will join Chernyakhovsk's 72 GvAB: the "72 White" is already confirmed and it can be assumed that the "71 White" will soon follow. Unless the VMF decides not to follow a logical sequence in the Bort numbers.

In addition, the next VKS squadron that will receive Su-30SMs will be the 14 IAP Kursk. This regiment currently equipped with MiG-29SMT / UB has already begun training crews on the Sukhoi.
With this transformation, the clearly stated goal of the Russian army is to strengthen its available capabilities near the border with Ukraine.

As a reminder, there are currently 88 Su-30SM ordered for VKS and 28 for VMF.

testing new helmet-mounted targeting sight for the Mi-28NM

"

A helmet-mounted targeting and indication system with stereo imaging is undergoing test trials within the onboard equipment of the new Mi-28NM helicopter, a source in the russian defense industry told Lenta.ru online publication.

The system is a binocular with independent channels for both eyes which create a stereo vision effect. The helmet-mounted targeting system provides both technical and optical vision (with transmission ratio of 0.7-0.8).

The source said the Kamov design bureau initially displayed interest in the device to place it on Ka-50 and Ka-52 helicopters but "they later lost interest and might have changed the concept."

The helmet-mounted targeting systems are designated to target onboard armaments by a turn of the head of the pilot. The technical image (including the aiming mark) is projected to the display fixed to the pilot's helmet without impeding the vision of the outside situation.

Mi-28NM design began in 2009. The new variant is equipped with new N025 radar which provides for all-round view. It is armed with new radio-electronic warfare system which includes anti-missile laser. The helicopter is designated to search and destroy low-speed air targets, tanks, armored and non-armored hardware and troops round-the-clock and in bad weather conditions. The Mi-28NM made its maiden flight in October 2016.

that it was negotiating with several countries for the sale of Mil Mi-35P air-assault helicopters.

The Mi-35P is a new version of the Mi-35M, which is a modernized export-centric variant of the Mi-24 Hind assault helicopter, which popularized itself from its service in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Rosonboronexport says the Mi-35P is equipped with a “23mm chin-mounted articulated double-barrel gun, HUD [heads-up display] in the pilot’s cockpit, multi-functional displays, gyro-stabilized optoelectronic system” and other features. The Mi-35P will also be capable of nighttime operations.

The Mi-35 is manufactured from Russian Helicopters’ Rostvertol plant. It is powered by two turboshaft engines, either Klimov TV3-117VMA or VK-2500 for commonality with the Mi-17 and Mi-28, respectively.

The Mi-35 has a payload capacity of 2,400 kg, which translate into armaments – such as anti-tank guided missiles, 80mm or 122mm rockets, and 23mm gun pods – and personnel, such as special forces operatives.

The Mi-35 is also configurable with a complete self-protection suite comprising of passive sensors, such as a radar warning receiver, and countermeasures, such as directed infrared jamming and chaff/flares.

Baptism of fire for this new

Watch Russian Navy vessels launch Kalibr cruise missiles at ISIS positions
Russian Navy vessels have launched four Kalibr cruise missiles at ISIS positions near Palmyra, Syria, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The navy’s newest frigate, Project 11356 Admiral Essen, launched two of the missiles. The frigate was commissioned earlier this month and is currently on her maiden voyage.

The other Russian Navy vessel involved in the strikes was the Project 636.6 diesel-electric submarine Krasnodar. The submarine launched the missiles from a submerged position, similar to what her sister-boat

.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the strikes were aimed at ISIS hangars near Palmyra. The ministry also added that the United States, Turkey, and Israel had been notified of the missile strikes.

The Kalibr cruise missile that was fired is a long-range cruise missile that is said to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The missile has land-attack, anti-ship and anti-submarine variants and was earlier tested aboard Gepard class frigates and Buyan-M class corvettes against targets in Syria.
