And the PLAN isn't a professional force with strong traditions of their own? But yet they successfully sent in their marine boarding force to rescue the crew of OS 35 ALL BY THEMSELVES. My point is their was not a single Indian marine in the picture boarding the OS 35 at all. o_O
PLAN is today by world's navy standards a professional force. One of the best. USN personnel routinely complement PLAN's professionalism and aplomb, and that's high praise from a force not too long ago looked down on the PLAN. PLAN professionalism isn't in question and immaterial for OS 35 incident. The real issue is if Indian Navy helicopter coordinated with and rendered assistance to PLAN ship and Marines. Some posters here are aghast Indian news reports said 'yes,' but I think they might not have all the facts, and the Indian helicopter may have been very helpful.

Have less experience for overseas deployment coz they do since less long time about 10 years but now we can see important progress and surely capable do very decent job but me i have strong traditions :) no doubter here only in the reality o_O
PLAN is by most accounts a highly professional force and getting even better, but tradition is another matter altogether since it hasn't been around for long, and mostly operated under the thumb of the army. It'll take a few more generations to build storied tradition.

But the fact remains the the PLAN Marines did the majority of the rescuing of the crew on OS 35. The Indian news paper just don't want to admit that.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for efforts to build the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy into a strong and modern force to lend support for the realization of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation and the dream of a strong army.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks during an inspection of the PLA Navy headquarters.

Xi expressed congratulations on the 12th Party congress of the PLA Navy, met delegates to the congress and conveyed greetings to all navy members.

Noting that the navy is a strategic military service concerning national security and overall development, Xi asked naval authorities to build a world-class force by promoting political awareness, reforms and rule of law.

Xi visited the navy's operational command center, where he greeted via video navy officers who were performing duties at sea.

He first talked with members of flotilla 150, which was in an overseas journey of good-will visit. The members told Xi that they had visited five countries in more than one month and were warmly welcomed by the host countries. Xi asked them to pass on friendship and contribute to world peace.

Xi also talked with staff who were carrying out a patrol mission aboard ship 538.

"You continuously fight wind and waves. Thanks for your hard work!" Xi said. "I hope all you comrades perform duties loyally and merit the trust of the Party and the people."

After hearing a report on naval work, Xi said a strong navy is a symbol of a world-class army and is a pivot for building the nation into a great maritime power.

He asked navy authorities to advance the transformation of the PLA Navy and focus on combat capabilities.

He said the navy should improve overall fighting capacity by combining the "mechanization and informationization," promoting both offshore and high sea forces and balancing operations on the water surface, below the sea and in the air.

Innovation is key to improving and transforming the navy, according to Xi. He noted the transformation must be carried out in accordance with the law.

The navy must resolutely safeguard the CPC Central Committee's authority and unwaveringly stick to the Party's absolute leadership, Xi stressed.

He called for efforts to thoroughly purge the pernicious influence of Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou, former corrupt senior CMC officials, and promote the anti-corruption drive.

He asked naval authorities to improve their own abilities while training a large number of capable military staff.

The headline says Xi calls for strong, modern navy, but the real message is buried deep in the article and it calls party obedience. Why is that? Is the CCP concerned about the loyalty of its private army?

Like szbd said above, every Chinese leader says the same thing. The Chinese have been saying the military belongs to the CCP since the first day the party was founded. Mao emphasized "the party leads the gun". Every PLA soldier must swear loyalty to the CCP on their first day of enlistment. Nothing special.

every leader say that too.

To understand this news, you have to have a lot of background knowledge about Chinese politics.

First, there will be the party grant congress held every 5 years in fall. The whole central committee will be re-elected. Though most of the positions will be no surprise, there are still variations that Xi also needs some vote for somebody he likes. So he visited navy delegates.

Anyway, this is a party event, not a military event

There are some indications that the Navy might have decided to procure or may even be in some stage of building a fairly unique (~20,000 ton?) semi-submersible arsenal ship.

This is still in the fairly early stages of rumour + speculation, but there are a few articles and supposedly there have been a few vague references by big shrimps over the years to something like this but wasn't taken that seriously until recently.
But not much about this is really known at this stage, not even designation, not propulsion or even its real configuration or likely payload. It has been referred to on the grapevine as "常潜式海洋攻搜作战平台"...

Far too early to say this thing is real, but the way some of the rumours and info are unfolding makes me think this should be a space to carefully watch if anything comes of it.

Yes! The American LRASM and Japanese ASM-3 will pass harmlessly over this ship when it dives.

A super-sized poor-man's Oscar-class SSGN, so to speak.
