China unveils new L-15B light-attack Aircraft

Hongdu Aviation Industry Corporation has displayed versions of the L-15B light-attack aircraft. The light-attack aircraft was first seen in footage of a May Day celebrations in Nanchang.

The L-15B is an upgraded attack variant of the L-15A. Unlike the standard version of L-15, the L-15B equipped with a pair of Ivchenko Progress AI-222K-25F jet engines with an afterburner, giving it a maximum speed of 1.4 Mach.

Also, the L-15B aircraft should be equipped with an on-board radar (allegedly with a passive phased array), a self-defense complex, an armament management complex, including a manageable one, and have 11 hardpoints.

The first L-15 prototype rolled out in September 2005 and made its maiden flight on 13 March 2006, piloted by the two of the chief test pilots of the program, Senior Colonel Yang Yao and Senior Colonel Zhang Jingting.

Hmm ... New images from the Roll-out ceremony at Hongdu from April 28th now show the L-15B prototype much clearer and first of all it seems to be based on the LIFT version – as demonstrated by prototype 06 – powered by a pair of afterburner-equipped AI-222K-25F. Also, it already shows the typical PLAAF-symbol, which is surprising since I thought the LIFT version – now renamed L-15B – is an export version only … So will the PLAAF also introduce this version ?? … maybe as a Q-5 successor ??

However from these images it looks more like a mock-up ??!

Would it be export to the Ukraine?

Surely not they don' t have money right now modernise fighters-bombers the numbers have increase but keep L-39.

Why not ?

I'm sure in mind of Ukraine's assistance in so many fields or military cooperation a favourable condition to sell it could be found !

Again budget they have just enough for modernised fighter retired and stored in more don' t need such aircraft need true combattants the situation is a little better than 3 year ago but only about 60 Mig-29/Su-27 are operationnals about 15 in more for Attack 31 Su-25 enough the need is not there.
It is a big country about 500000 + km2 they need in more with neighbour... at less 100 Mig-29/Su-27s and it is a minimum.

IMO one of the Zambian birds ... and most likely yes with the PESA.

The PESA on the L-15Z and B is certainly intriguing, not just its capabilities but also its origins and development. AFAIK, the only air-to-air munition its been seen with is the PL-5II but surely it must have been tested with others as well given its known capability. Its sale to Zambia is probably going to be indicative of the configuration it will most see export in, few countries in need of advanced high performance trainers would opt for a Chinese aircraft over a Western or Russian model, but as a light multirole aircraft it could see even more exports.

New picture. what is the difference between AJT and LIFT? Or are they the same Now is Karakorum JL 8 is AJT?
it is rare to see the two types of Chinese advanced training aircraft - JL-9 and JL-10 - taken in the same photo.
