Timepass, this is an indian military thread. Please keep news articles that relevant to this thread. Although those articles are informative about the plight of the Kashmir people. We must ensure that we maintain the standards of Sinodefenceforum. Keep things civil, pertinent and not politicize any thread.

Could be a deal made for used Canadian Sea Kings this week:

I hope India doesn't take Canada's sea kings. Those are pretty ancient helicopters with a lot of maintenance issues. I remember articles on how bad they were more than a decade ago. India needs new helicopters not this hand me down stuff.

Agree, there is no shortage of articles on the issues had with the Sea Kings. But then again, India has a real operational need for more choppers of this size without a domestic alternative. GOI tenders take a long time from start to finish, so this could be a reasonable stop-gap measure, if the price is right (and Canada does a good sales job!).

@Zool I will cut you some slack because maybe you dd not see the deleted posts.

But we do not want or need flame baiting posts here on the Indian Military Thread, any more than we would allow those type of posts by Indian posters on the Pakistani thread.

SD is not about...and will not tolerate...flame wars and argument, conspiracy theory or other posts that seek t inflame the forum.

Its pretty simple. If you have legitimate news about new Indian equipment, progress on INdian military projects, etc. post the,

But DO NOT try and make this political or inflaming.

When is the Virkant going to sea?

I mean she was finally actually launched (or as they called it, undocked) in 2015.

she should be preparing for builders trials soon.

Anyone know?

I know they plan to try and hand her over to the Navy by 2018...but that should mean that builders trials will start this year. I am wondering when?

There are some contradictory statements on this from India lately.

The latest info is that the INS Vikrant will apparently not enter "true" service with installed aviation facilities (including arresting gear) and sensors and weapons in 2023, but the shipyard will try to "deliver" the INS Vikrant to the navy by 2018 however it will lack all of those vital systems. I have no idea why on earth the Indian Navy would even bother with that though, considering accepting a carrier without aviation facilities, without sensors and without weapons is utterly stupid.
And even then, I'm not sure if "delivering to the Navy" means delivering it for sea trials or commissioning it -- though even if it were only for sea trials, trialling the ship without its sensors, weapons and without its aviation facilities is also rather silly.

Either way, the Indian Navy almost definitely won't be receiving INS Vikrant in a complete fashion by next year, and if they do then I will be quite impressed.
