Well Jura That's fine. And yes I know you dislike LCS and anything associated with it. You would like the Navy to scrap them, contact for a foreign designed established Frigate.

you know, technicalities aside, my whole point has been (and I'm sorry if it didn't sound this way) the USN wasted on LCSs like dozen years so far, during which simply an evolution of the OHPs might've been procured and by now there could've been like dozen new Frigates available ... just imagine if now Charlie in Korea took it south and sent the subs to Korea Strait, OK I know it's what if plus the subs would be probably trashy plus the ROSK and Japanese navies would know what to do ... but still, any warship would be needed

On that I say 99.6% of the people on this forum can agree whether the or what kind of ship equipment it all falls apart at but the current ship (when not broken down) is a complete and utter joke when it comes comes to fighting peer like adversaries and it's the previous regimes fault from the top in down including politicians

It is surprisingly accurate the news about the LCS has been since the new administration took office and if this RTE is to be believed then yes finally yes we are going to see our frigate emerge it may be a site to behold I read today in the LCS section of news TV on the LCS the navy has admitted it's mistake with them that my friends is Big Big news I have asked Jura to share the article for me which I hope he will thank you all for letting me into the forum by the way

Well, @Jura and @dtulsa @bd popeye @Air Force Brat @TerraN_EmpirE @FORBIN as is stands, we have 14 vessels in the water.

Those are good hulls, and with the plans now to uparm and fix them, we are going to get those 14 hulls built into decent firgates, as well as the next ten or twelve to finish out the contract.

...and if they get the better sensors, the VLS HEllfires and the eoght long range ASMs, and upgrade the air defense a bit, and then ensure that they have two ASW helos and add towed arrays...they will end up being decent frigates despite what the idiots did for the last ten years.

Then we will move on to a true, multi-mission...from the get go...frigate I hope.

I honestly believe that the Independence class can be good for the Gator Navy escorts, conducting ASW and MCM missions, while the Freedom class can be decen frigate escorts for carriers and in SAGs.

So many of us have been contacting the Navy and the builders and the pols for all these years...and I believe now we have an admin who will listen...and as important...will appoint people who will listen...and it looks like now that they are.

Even the Obama administrationw as forced by the utcry to change course late in the game for them.

Anyhow, that's my read.

We have 14 hulls in the water and more coming and we are going to see them be made over into actual firgate worthy ships. It will still take some time...but I am confidant now it is going to get donw.

well 'dtulsa' indeed contacted me on Facebook, but he intended to post an article which was newer than the info already available from

and OF COURSE the USN has NOT "admitted" anything, as you can see inside
Navy Considering More Hulls for Frigate Competition, Expanding Anti-Air Capability

The following was the complete statement from the Navy on the ongoing frigate study provided to USNI News.

As a result of the Navy’s 2016 Force Structure Assessment, increased emphasis on Distributed Maritime Operations, and increasingly complex threats in the global maritime environment, the Navy continues to assess the capabilities required to ensure the Frigate outpaces future threats. Therefore, the Navy is pursuing an update to the analysis performed by the 2014 Small Surface Combatant Task Force (SSCTF) to reassess Frigate requirements and capabilities. The Navy Frigate Requirements Evaluation Team (FFG RET) will update the SSCTF analyses to investigate the feasibility of incorporating additional capabilities such as Local Air Defense and enhanced survivability features into the current LCS designs, as well as explore other existing hull forms. The result of this update will inform PB18 deliberations, and will be briefed to OSD leadership and the Congressional committees once completed later this spring. Our goal is to get the best capability possible in our future Frigate, at an affordable price, and with a mature design that will ensure a relevant platform for decades to come.

While the design for the Frigate matures, the Navy remains firmly committed to execution of the current LCS program of record, in order to maintain the viability of both shipyards, maximize competition for future ship contracts, and deliver critically needed capability to the Fleet as quickly as possible.
"... the Navy remains firmly committed to execution of the current LCS program of record ..."

I'm going to update this post with that RET's findings once they become available (presumably in the first half of this year) ... until then, I have nothing more to say (I think I "pounded" LCSs enough already :)
