I didn’t post last week, since Mrs. Mirage and me went for a 5 day holiday to the north to see the large water falls of Iguazu, in the province of Misiones. Enjoying the beginning of Fall season.

Hello.. I spend a lot of time on line looking at old photos of the USA. Particularly from the 30s & 40s. The other day I found this photo in the Library of Congress. I found it by searching the word "Negro".....

Title: An experienced Negro furnace tender in a Midwest aluminum foundry now producing equipment for the army rolls a 2000 pound rotary furnace. Aluminum Industries..Cincinnati Ohio.

Creator(s): Alfred T Palmer, photographer

The man pictured above is my grandfather. He died of a heart attack before the end of WWII(1945) I know it is him because of two factors.

1) He's nearly the spitting image of my dad.
2) He was the only Black licensed furnace/boiler tender in Ohio.

Too bad there's no one left to share this photo with.

Well BD no doubt you're proud, and I'm proud that you love us enough to share this photo of your Grandpappy with your brothers?? I am sorry that your folks are gone, no doubt your Dad and Mom would be proud as well,,,, and son, you do your people proud, no doubt in my mind, that your Grandpa would love the man you became, a proud American, a strong American, and a United States Navy Sailor! tell your pretty lady we said Hi, just love you man, and I'm proud to have you as my SDF shipmate and brother, I'm so thankful you are back up to a full head of steam!

I would have never known what a shipmate was without you BD! you've taught me so much!

Yes they were proud that I served. If my dad was still here on Earth he'd be 105 years old this Sunday. And my mom passed away in 2011.. she would have been 97.
