China's SCS Strategy Thread

Not even if Trump has a dossier on Putin.

"the dossier gate" is a preemptive move by the US intellegence agency, it tends to preempt both Putin and Trump: Putin cannot use it to blackmail Trump, and Trump cannot cave in to Putin.

the american public know what kind of man Trump is, the salacious audio didn't derail his campaign, a salacious video may only make him more colorful.:)

Solarz made a good comment. Inasmuch as many are furious with the insensitive and careless comments/remarks made by Trump & his Team, I believe we should not generalise that all Americans think/act like them. The popular votes (3 million) in the recent US Election did not go to Trump, although he won the Electoral College Votes. It's a system peculiar to the US, not easy to understand by others. Anyway, China, Asia, US, EU and all countries have to trade with each other for internal and external growth. The markets must always be opened, and like Security issues, we should carefully scrutinise Trump's Administration actions after his inauguration (20 January 2017). China, US and many countries in the world are members of the WTO & they should be sensible and forthright in their dealings and future negotiations. Quoting the Wise Chinese philosopher Li Gang "If you don't understand tact, speak rudely, interact with people without manners, and behave inappropriately; you will LOSE other people's friendship and FAIL in whatever mission you attempt". Good lesson for the impending Trump Administration.

I think the American system was set up to prevent abuses. In a way its not unlike the FFP system we had in NZ(First past the post) and i think still exists in the uk.The country was divided into X amount of seats and who ever won the most seats(electorate) formed the government. It was not unusual for the loser under this system to actually win the popular vote. I think the records show Labour which is the equivilent of the American Democrats lost more elections despite winning the popular vote even by a small margin.

I think its better than the current MMP system which was designed to supposedly give everyone a say. This has can lead to a situation where a smaller party with unelected members can hold sway over the government.

Personally i rather go back to FFP

No Gents, Barack Hussein Obama was president, small p when Russia invaded the Crimea!

Trump will make things better with Putin, and this present craziness in Europe will ramp down!

Keep whining though, all great powers get that way by continuously playing the victim card???

Keep smoking on that illegal stuff and you'll end up like the "great" former Soviet Union. All self entitled empire failed that way when they ignore history and their own problems, while over estimating their abilities. Remember ya can't pray yourself out of a hole and Trump is no messiah.

It is a simple matter to sell the American people on a war with China. Recall that the American people just elected Trump in part due to anti-China sentiment bundled up in concerns about globalisation. In the narrative of which many Americans approved of, it is China that has been the chief beneficiary of trade deals in which Americans have been the losers. China has prospered while America has decayed because prior US leaders "sold out" to narrow corporate interests, and Trump promises to change all that, to make America great again. It is a simple matter to extend the antipathy that already exists in the United States towards China to overtly militaristic/nationalistic matters. Anyone who imagines that the American public is a serious obstacle to war with China (or anyone else for that matter) is fooling themselves.

But China is not 9/11 event or Muslim country (as in terrorism) for that matter. It will take a lot of anti-China rhetoric in order to get the American people to go have a military conflict with the PRC. People are already got tired of two Middle East military adventures that was costly in both money and lives. As a result China is definitely NO third world military Middle Eastern country either.

There are multiple flaws in the theory that the American people won't stand for a war with China:

1) The American people have very little say in the conduct of foreign policy.

2) The American people -- at least those who elected Trump -- are already disposed to anti-China views.

3) The arts of propaganda -- in this case of convincing people that X nation is an enemy -- are well established and well-practiced in American politics. The recent shift in attitudes towards Russia amongst Trump voters is a far greater achievement than convincing them that China is the enemy would be.

4) Once a war is in progress and national pride is on the line, most of the population will readily fall into line, at least so long as there is the prospect of victory. See: World War II.

All things considered, the task of securing the necessary degree of popular support in America for a war against China is basically child's play.

I agree, the US public should not be considered any sort of restraint for the US govt if they truly want to provoke a conflict with China under Trump.

I wouldn't call it simple for the US to garner support for a war against China necessarily, but it definitely is something to seriously consider and factor into predictions.

Iran flight 655 is a senseless tragedy.

I suggest you do some research into the events that led up to that tragedy. 'Senseless' is not how anyone would objectively describe it.

By the accounts of fellow USN captains who were there at the time, the captain and ship in question had a cowboy reputation.

That's not going to change US policy in the SCS, nor does it excuse extremely reckless behavior by pilots running intercepts.

There are many intercepts that are conducted in an entirely professional manner, no one says a word about those, only the "STOOPID" are pointed out for their total disregard for the safety of fellow aviators doing their jobs in peacetime.

On please spare us the Pentagon propaganda.

Japanese fighters locked fire control radar on Chinese fighters is professional and safe, but Chinese fighters flying near US planes is dangerous and 'stoopid'

Did the US planes have to make any course alternations to what the Chinese pilots did?

Show me a report where the US planes had to actually make evasive manoeuvres and I might accept the Chinese pilots crossed the line.

Otherwise, by their very actions and deeds, the US pilots, who were actually there in the cockpit at the time, deemed the Chinese action to pose no risk to the safety of their planes and crews. So it's just all propaganda posturing nonsense.

OMG, China's flying a bomber over international waters around the South China Sea like the US does. How dare they!

Mace that's the HUFF-PO, and remember, OBAMA ran on a promise that we would be mutually loved and adored around the world, the LIBERAL's don't know how people really feel and don't care, so to liberals, this is real news and its all Trumps fault, they didn't even know the Obama authored the Pacific Pivot, they think that's a Holiday Package that comes with their Visa card.???

We hope peace for the world for sure. But I am afraid you are wishful thinking about this one. Not saying that Trump will not try. But Putin cannot back off from Crimea.

Crimea might have been the "craziness in Europe" three years ago. Not anymore today, IMO.

Well San, when you let those deals go down, they down, its gone! now all we can do, is "hold what ya got" my old Daddies favorite saying when I was holding cattle so he could DR. em?? Yeah big old needles, and always bent, he didn't lasso em and hog-tie em??? Yes we run a bunch of Cattle, fine Herefords to start, and finally a Hereford Angus cross.
