Pretty exciting for China considering the fact that the s400 is one of the most advanced anti aircraft systems in the world.....they're getting so few tho.....probably reverse engineer it and make their own...good idea anyway lol

China has better Radar technology than Russia as evidented by its aesa radar on its fighter plane, Phase array radar on its surface ships and its rocket technology is not below Russia.

Theoretically, China by now should have a self developed Air defense system better than HQ9 and S400.

It's impossible to pass judgment on Russian/Chinese AD radars without actually juxtaposing their respective performance data. Although the technology behind key subcomponents such as GaAs/GaN transistors and software transcend their platforms, progress in airborne and ground-based radars may not be proportionate.

The Chinese may be working on a next-generation SAM, but their recent purchase of the S-400 implies that they still have quite a bit of work to do before their labor bears fruit.

J20 uses aesa, yet Su35 still using pesa.

Silly comparison. Su-35 is an aircraft that is in service right now, J-20 is not.

The more relevant comparison would be J-10B or J-15 -- oh, but those don't have AESA either.

J-16 apparently has AESA which means that, indeed, China beat Russia to fielding an AESA on an operational fighter, but that has more to do with broader platform timeframes than anything else. Russia's currently in-production fighters have their designs frozen from mid-2000s, whereas J-16 design was frozen probably five years later.

Russia will introduce fighter AESA with MiG-35 before the end of the decade, T-50 around the end of the decade, followed by Su-34M and then MLU upgrades for existing aircraft. If there is a gap between Chinese and Russian radars, it is not a large one.

J-20 is only in LRIP and still lot of testing to go. J-11D is also in early stages. J-16 is rumored to have problems with its AESA (vendor different from J-10C & J-11D).

Only fighter with AESA successfully in service with the PLAAF is the J-10C (14th Institute).

But, the MiG-35 was designed with an AESA in mind. 1st flew in 2007. Zhuk-AE was unveiled in 2007. Zhuk-AE

. This is the export version. RuAF version (Zhuk-A?) has different specs. MiG-35 will enter service at the end of 2016.
