Only a STOBAR, a CATOBAR CV is a color of a different horse. I suspect China's first venture into CATOBARland would be long and meticulous.

That's an odd statement, given the unimpeachable fact none of China's shipyards has yet completed a single carrier. Therefore, one can only start to believe once 1) CV17 is under trials, without catastrophic problems, and 2) more than one PRC shipyards build carriers.

I don't think it's odd to say that "Carrier building in China is very robust" - given what we've seen with other ship classes.

Aircraft carrier design however is a known weakness, given the stage of the programme.

It's pointless to squabble over something that is impossible to hide, and will be put together in the time around 2020 anyway. Personally, I don't think the 002 will have its first steel plate cut until the catapult model is finalised.

I think we are going to see evidence of 002 maybe in 2017, but almost certainly by 2018.

I have read comments elsewhere, that it may be difficult to see the progress of the construction of the 002 carrier at JN, due to a large wall that has been constructed there, in the area where the carrier is to be supposedly built???

For the photogrpaher and internet people...yes. But the logistical chain leading into those facilities will not be so easily hjidden...even if the parts travel through tunnels to get there.

It will be hard to hide the costing, manufacturing at separate facilities, and personnel buildup from intelligence agencies of various countries...and that info will leak out.

Still, I expect we will see a number ofphysical things, even through the internet and places like Janes, Naval Today, Naval Technology, and some of the big shrimp in China.

I'm sure intelligence services of nations will be able to track the construction relatively accurately, but for the likes of us on the internet, I expect the 002 process will be similar to 001A where we get the first photos from Chinese BBS, because I doubt the CIA will give us open updates on 002's progression

That purple model is kind of funny/wrong -- the flight deck's horizontal orientation seems to have been flipped, so that the runway is angled to starboard rather than port (when looking at the flight deck angle), but the island still remains on the starboard side as well...
