They did it to shorten the plane, I presume?

No. SoC has access to a larger photo and according to him the width and length are almost identical to the PLAAF J-20.

So my take is, that this may very well be an RCS model for a heavy naval fighter or re-designing for the next gen J-20 powered by WS-15

....or someone at CAC is really really trolling not just deino but all of us :confused:.

I think there is a high probability of it being the latter. Imagine J-20B coming out in 2018!

We are getting close to my vaunted tailfinless configuration; but it's still imperative that the J-20 or J-20A hits IOC as soon as possible. The J-20B, if it exists, should only be a research direction for second-generation J-20s, instead of a replacement for J-20As.

SoC, who has a much better version of the photo, said it looks like it has two engines.

I will take his word for it. If this thing is a J-20 variant and has no or reduced rudder, the the possibility is high that this variant uses 3d vector thrust. Reduced rudder is more likely -- it may be a reduced performance backup in case of failure or damage of the 3D vector thrust.

They said J20 AESA has the largest power therefore longest detecting range , more than F22.

Guys ... I know the time until some news appear on the J-20 itself are booooring, and as such, discussions might spin quite a wider range than usually but right now we are in the middle of no-where related to the J-20 and much more within the radar-thread.

Should I move this on-going discussion into this section ?

Some interesting items from an ongoing science exhibition in Beijing that might be of relevance to the J-20 program...

1) ZT7H aviation-grade carbon fiber... According to the placard, it's superior to the Japanese T700S and on par with the IM7 carbon fiber used on F22 Raptor.

2) GaN (gallium nitride) microwave module (chip):

3) GaN mono-crystalline substrate:
