On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Damascus City and the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – continued their large-scale offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus, targeting this Jaysh Al-Islam stronghold at the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airbase.

The Republican Guard and their allies began their assault at the southern perimeter of the Helicopter Airfield inside the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airbase, striking the Islamist rebels from Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) with a powerful ground and aerial assault.

Accordng to a military source with the Republican Guard, the Syrian Armed Forces imposed full control over the strategic helicopter airfield that is situated to the south of the Marj Al-Sultan village, following an intense series of firefights with the Islamist rebels from Jaysh Al-Islam.

The military source added that Jaysh Al-Islam was fighting alongside the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and a number of small Islamist rebel groups that are operating in the East Ghouta region of the Rif Dimashq Governorate.

With helicopter airfield under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces are on the brink of capturing the entire military airbase; this would mark the first time since the summer of 2012 that the pro-government forces have advanced this deep in the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airbase.

If the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airbase is captured the Syrian Armed Forces, they will be in position to attack several untouched villages in the East Ghouta.

This seems to be the position:
The Syrian army will want to fight as few enemies as possible. The task is anyway big. So it offers to sign armistices with any "rebels" and those that keep them are offered a seat at the political discussions. Brownie points for those who help fight ISIL or its allies. Those that do not are allies of ISIL and will be destroyed.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian Armed Forces alongside Hezbollah fighters continued their joint attacks on terrorists' defense lines in at least four regions in Aleppo's countryside on Sunday, killing or wounding scores of them.
The Syrian army troops and resistance forces of Hezbollah targeted the positions of the ISIL terrorists near al-Bab city, Maskaneh, al-Afesh and Akouleh across the Eastern and Northeastern countryside of Aleppo city.
The ISIL militants have been pinned down as a resulted of the pro-government forces' offensives in which the terrorist group has suffered heavy death toll.

Also on Saturday, the army did the same with the abovementioned locations and destroyed positions of ISIL terrorists in the villages and towns of al-Bab, Maskaneh, al-Afesh, Akouleh and Rasm al-Abd in the Eastern countryside of Aleppo.

The terrorists' vehicles were also destroyed in the military operations.

I would read an opinion by anyone commenting on the difference between the Government Forces spending
  1. about one month to get to the Kuweiris Airbase, and
  2. about one week to get to "M5"
while the distance is even longer for 2.
Looks good!
I sure don't want to spoil this, but I've read, as for #1 above, ISIL is still about one km from the Airbase in three directions, and I'm puzzled by the advances in #2 (there had been a local command center of Rebels in a large compound between Tall Hadiayah, Al-Barqum, and "M5", previously an Istitute for something, I've read, which according to pro-Government sources has been most recently cleared (I think the word used was "mopped" :)

The tactical circumstances will be very different. The quality of the ISIL forces seems to be much better than that of the "rebels". But we need the judgement of someone with a good knowledge of the terrain as well as the forces concerned.
