US Air Force LRS-B Bomber Thread - the B-21 Raider

It's a pretty big blow to Boeing.. they lost JSF, now they lost LRSB...C-17 ramping down, F-15s ramping down ..

Airbus is also taking a good chunk out from the civilian market .. ironically China may save the day.... There is potential for a large quantity of orders from China for 737s and 777s.... and potentially 787 down the road.

kwaigonegin, you work for Boeing?

(not my business, I know, just curious :)

they still have KC46 contracts, The Navy has a order for a few more E/A18's they also have P8 Poseidon. Upgrades for the E3 and the new Air Force ones
they are major contractors for the V22 and CH47, Major partners for the SB-1 Defiant.
potential for the T-X program.

Yes, and satelites, space based systems etc not to mention the weapons divisions Harpoons, JDAMs, slammers etc .. enough to pay the bills and some but we need something BIG LOL

Great news for Northrup. I suspect both teams made excellent offerings but in my view the decider was in securing a strong industrial base. I don't think it is in the interest of the US to be totally dependent on just Boeing/Lockheed.

PS. Jeff, you beat Jura to this. He must still be sleeping. Lol
Exact with Boeing F-18 production finish for 2020 better for a big country in more have 2 manufacturers LM for fighter and Northrop for Bomber.

I've read that USAF is wanting IOC of the new bomber around 2025... That would probably be about when H-X and Russia's new bomber would pop out as well.
Will be interesting to see how they all match up.

I imagine both China and Russia would have had somewhat similar requirements for their bomber programmes to what the US wanted for LRS-B, rather than simply going for a B-2 analogue, which is obviously an advanced capability but is too costly and not flexible enough for service in the latter half of the 21st century

Initialy but with now energy price... moreover only 12 PAK-FA for 2020 very possible a Schedule offset... for the PK-DA.

According first report and match with the 2500 nm/4600km range mentionned, combat radius in fact a more small B-2 no surprising :) about 20 % more small can do 140t max about then possible a payload of about 18/19t also evoke carry 16 LACM normaly futur LRSO.

For Stealth annouced better but seems still difficult to do much better than the B-2 which is excellent for RCS at less he is a Bomber no a fighter can be also good size matters.

B-2 do 171 t max, payload 23 t, 16 AGM-158A right now, CR 5500 km daddies do better :) but more big also B-52H 7200, B-1B 6000, Tu-95/160 7200/7500

But the more important is USAF get 100 of this new big boy, 100 B-3 :) confirmed or 80/100 ?
IOC for 2025 would be excelent but not easy in 10 years ! if they do they are strong.

NB : i have yet put some post about this new on the thread Heavy Bombers.

Presumably AFB my friend you prefer a true dogfighter ;) but this big boy carry a very nice load far and are essentials.

Exactly, I would go for the Heavy Raptor concept, extending the legs and the load, this aircraft is too small and doesn't honestly have as much range as it should. The dollar limitations have limited the potential performance of this aircraft, a Heavy Raptor would offer more bang for the buck? but hey, no one really cares do they?? LOL

So...in other words you would like to see your Honey Badger as a (cough..clearing throat) "Plus Size" woman when it comes to F-22 as a stealth bomber. Easy now there buddy, nothing wrong with fetishes but you're getting a little bit like our ole Mr. Bill "I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman" Clinton. :D:p;)

In the infamous drawl of the Head Rooster, "Foghorn Leghorn" I say "boy, I say boy", I have not, nor would I ever, ever, ever, vote for or immulate a Clinton, you are getting your facts confused--- the Honey Badger is my wifey, and she is a very, very, pretty lady, and could prolly kick your butt riding her bike or running? LOL

As for my "Rapture with the Raptor", you and I share a passion for beautiful women, in this case we are referring to an aeronautical super-model, not quite as snarky as the T-50, not quite as exotic as the J-20 with those cute little "canards", but the aeronautical equivalent of Miss America, good, wholesome, full figured all American Chick.

As you well know the FA-22 was a very serious concept for some time, when the AFB says Heavy Raptor, I'm thinking of something between the F-22 and the B-ONE!
There's not an airplane on the planet that is actually more well proportioned or attractive than the B-ONE!

so please, its not lust, its simple, honest, respect and admiration?? nothing sordid, but rather al-truistic love.

I was just listening to the Aviation Week Check 6 podcast, One of their commentators made a important point the LRS-B is part of the Long Range strike program "Family of Systems" which is not just a bomber but includes a wider range of platforms.
There is already a LRS program based air launched Cruise missile, The Long range standoff missile or LRS-O aimed to replace the AGM 86 ALCM fired from the B52.. Talk of some form of Electronic attack platform ( IE a jammer) perhaps taking the form of a Jammer pod for F35 or a Drone or maybe even a EB3? some form of penetrating intelligence surveillance reconnaissance platform again undefined but my bet on this is a drone.
