Panama expands a month the import ban of firearms

(Defensa.com) The Panamanian Ministry of Public Security has extended another month suspension of import of firearms allowed for use in the country to duly authorized companies, in order to gain time to adopt a regulation that includes rules to establish appropriate and adequate measures.

The document exempts security agencies and the security of the state and warning of the need to identify "excessively dangerous weapons fire", as well as individuals seeking these weapons and that can make them a criminal use.

The suspension decision was posted on May 6 in the Official Gazette, through Solved No. 066 / DIASP / 15, extending a period of closure that began in the previous administration, when for reasons of increased rates of violence and homicide cases, the decision to prevent the entry of more weapons into the country was taken. The Nicaraguan canal would finance the navy of Nicaragua in the Caribbean

uSyt8Ak.jpg

(Defensa.com) United States donated to the Naval Force of the Army of Nicaragua (FN-EN) Three speedboats rebuilt, planificándose a total of 21 vessels to be delivered soon. The restoration at a cost of $ 375,000 and the ships were received by the Staff of the Naval Force of the hands of the US Ambassador to the country, Phyllis M. Power. The donation meant a commitment to strengthen the strategy of containment Nicaraguan wall.

These three interceptor boats of Eduardoño type, 38 feet long, seized at the time by the Navy during operations against drugs, and restored with funds from the US government at a cost of $ 125,000. It remembers that the NF-EN is that this policy began modernizing its fleet by recycling of boats caught drug trafficking, now being operated by 35 vessels Eduardoño Guard units and as many for the two battalions of naval troops. USA now intends to deliver up to 21 units in the coming years, all modified and standardized with a reinforced hull, new motors and controls, GPS, radios and others. Nicaraguan forces have seized 152 965 kilos of drugs from cocaine, marijuana and heroin between 2000 and April 2015.

It is not the first time that the US rebuilds confiscated ships for recycling and use by the NF EN. In May 2008, funds from that country were used to revive a fishing boat and its conversion into coastguard vessel. Said fishing boat, 75 feet long, was seized in 2006, under the name of the girl, rebautizándose as BL 405 Tayacan, with its interior completely renovated and equipped with new radios and positioning systems (GPS); new electrical system and battery charging; replacement of hydraulic valves and pipe replacement and interior sections of the hull, installation of a depth sounder, repairing the propeller, among other things, all in excess of the $ 80,000 amount. Around the same time they would be repaired and rebuild the docks and facilities for The Bluff with more than two million dollars investment, and 900,000 were invested in the repair of three ships Dabur.

In 2009 also they delivered two other Eduardoño, rebuilt with funds from the US and the UK. In 2006 the US Coast Guard (USCG) donated directly to Atlantic Naval District (DNA) Eduardoño fast boat with three outboard motors, 200 hp, while the embassy established police posts in the Corn Islands (Corn Island and Little Corn Island), all part of the aid to the South Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAS).

Eduardoño second unit was donated by the USCG for use of DNA, as one was delivered in 2004. The conditions of the FN have been poor so that in January 2015, the Southern Command Military Group Army United States installed a renewable energy system, consisting of solar panels and batteries, in the military post of the Naval Force of Nicaragua located in the Miskito Cays, at a cost of $ 80,000 funded by the Southern Command of the United States Army and from where they operate and fast interceptor boats donated by the United States.

This poverty of resources and dependence on foreign benefits not contrasted with news aimed at finding at least four naval patrols. However, for purposes of patrol, and considering the tasks and distances that are now entrusted to the Nicaraguan naval service, the truth is that four patrol more is the minimum number needed. It would be more in order that it was a requirement for at least four coastguard patrol corvettes along with two ocean.

However, where the funds would be drawn to acquire them ?. NF EN could be soon in an enviable financial position: The Nicaraguan canal promises an unparalleled economic boom, and the project requires better control of the maritime environment. The channel would have a budget of up to 50,000 million dollars, pointing to a Chinese construction company (HKND). The Grand Canal of Nicaragua Interoceanic have 278 kilometers long and will cross the country from east to west, linking the rivers Brito and Punta Gorda.

By way of comparison, the Panama Canal is 77 kilometers long. The Nicaraguan model will pass through the Great Lake Nicaragua and its tributaries, the free trade zone in Brito, of the resort in San Lorenzo and the airport in Rivas, joining two ports on the Pacific and Caribbean. An artificial lake, called Atlanta, and handled 5,100 ships annually carried out. This is expected to be in service by 2020. This infrastructure promises a strategic and financial value for all powers, the US included. Russia in particular sees it as a strategic point and could advance its influence vessels with the delivery of long range patrol.

Mirgae, I can see no indication in the article that the vessel had been "rejected," at the title of the article says

To the contrary it says that Cotecmar plans on delivering the vessel to the Navy, " It is expected to be delivered to the Navy in Colombia this month."

Am I missing something or is the title of this article in error?

Gaucho Guarani and the break in the Unasur 1: misunderstandings and lack of credibility set the standards of relationship between the Brazilian defense industry and Argentina

beoxccX.jpg

(Defensa.com) Brazil ruled the so-called General Employment Lightweight Vehicle, Airborne VLEGA Gaucho, like Uruguay. The Brazilian Army is apparently choosing his Chivunk, and Argentina therefore not confirm your choices by 14 Brazilian armored Guarani, approaching the VN-1 Chinese and other eastern naval and air options, which deeply upsets Brazil. The Argentine Army, after testing the Guarani, argued that favored 8x8 vehicles, the Asian offer, however, is not the most valued by the Land Forces of that country.

In the naval sphere and in the area of OPV, Argentina, Falklands dispute through, never considered the BAE "Amazon" that Brazil sought to manufacture locally to third countries. Neither Uruguay, although the first South American output of a ship of this class was just to Montevideo. Similarly, the "Amazon", which consumed much of the available resources to other items of the Brazilian Navy, BAE were discontinued in favor of more expensive options. Furthermore, certain difficulties with its supply of radars Scanter 4100 transcended regionally. Argentines and Uruguayans flirtations by Chinese IPO (although the Uruguayan Navy ostensibly prefer, if they could afford them, the Lurssen) also fell ill in Brasilia, but for now, does not have much to offer about their neighbors.

Finally, industrial indecision, complicated partners (especially Venezuela) and the uncertainties of the project itself, especially regarding Venezuela and Bolivia logistically Americans do not want no Israeli engines and avionics make Brazil discreetly go abandoning the project multinational training aircraft Unasur I, of which there is still neither a prototype available in Cordoba.

So, the relationship between defense and security industries in Brazil and Argentina remain scarce, limited to provide the KC-390 parts manufactured in FAdeA, although Argentine options for six aircraft are not confirmed yet. To make matters worse, Brazil, with the Super Tucano, Argentina, the Pampa II / III, and with China, L-15 and K-8 face in a Bolivian tender includes an amount of $ 140 million to acquire fighter planes.
