Currently being developed. Incorporates dual seekers, has a longer range and new missile link system. The has been reduced and its warhead can be changed depending on the mission. Future upgrades may include concept optimization for sea or land targets. The range of the Mk. IV would have to be significantly larger than others versions, over 1 000 km

German soldiers used painted broomsticks instead of machine guns on armored personnel carriers as part of NATO Response Force (NRF) drills in Norway.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Equipment shortages forced German soldiers to mount painted broomsticks instead of machine guns on armored personnel carriers as part of NATO Response Force (NRF) drills in Norway several months ago, two German magazines have revealed.
Kontraste and Report Mainz magazines gained access to a German armed forces' internal report published Tuesday, which detailed the absence of equipment during the course of exercises conducted in September 2014 in southeast Norway.
"Painted broomsticks were installed on GTK Boxer armored personnel carriers during training in Norway since no machine-gun barrels were available," the internal report reads as quoted by the publications.
The document goes on to say that in addition to full-scale shortages concerning personnel carriers, 41 percent of German soldiers lack P8 Luger semi-automatic pistols, and another 31 percent – the MG3 machine gun.

The same goes for the Lucie night vision devices, which experienced "failures of 76 percent" due to either defects or unavailability.
Although the German Federal Ministry of Defense declined to answer questions on the subject, it emphasized that "the [Rapid Response Force] unit is combat-ready."
The multinational NATO Response Force – made up of air, land, sea and special operation forces – conducted Noble Ledger exercises in Rena, Norway and Wildflecken, Germany on September 8-26, 2014.
As part of the larger 13,000-strong Noble Justification exercise that continued into October 2014, 15 NATO member states deployed nearly 6,000 military and civilian personnel in field training exercises.

17.02.2015: Deutsche NATO-Eingreiftruppe durch Ausrüstungsmängel nicht einsatzbereit
Bundeswehr zieht mit Besenstielen ins Manöver
Mainz.
Harald Kujat:

I skipped the original german but here is the most galling part the weapons system they were missing barrels for is the MG3 it's been in service since 1960 and is based on the MG42 re chambered in 7.62 NATO. Europe's breadwinner nation can't even train with barrels in there weapons.

With broomstick to maneuver
The German NATO Response Force is not ready.
Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen: Yesterday, she was still taken from the fool for a ride - paper planes for the Air Force it folds - the Bundeswehr in a ridiculous state. But the satire may, may exaggerate, may exaggerate. But does it really - exaggerate? Or is it closer to changing reality in this case than we thought? My contrasts colleague, Marie Hoff and Christopher Rosenthal, about conditions in the German army, which simply refers to a high-ranking German military expert as shameful and embarrassing.
Security conference in Munich. Defence Minister von der Leyen uses this international stage to give NATO great promise what the Bundeswehr can take anything and make. Even before the conference, she proudly announces its new plans in the plane.
Ursula von der Leyen
Original sound, Ursula von der Leyen, CDU, Federal Minister of Defence:
"We will take this year, the leadership and responsibility in the NATO spearhead. And Germany is 30 to 50 percent of the necessary soldiers. This is a great challenge. "
A great challenge? She comes to this unit, the 371st Infantry Battalion Ca. 900 soldiers make January the German battle group to the NATO Response Force, the NATO Response Force, NRF shortly.
The unit is stationed in Marienberg in Saxony. Your task today: to be used at any time and ready to fight.
At the turn of 2015, the German armed forces announced full-bodied: "The companies are ready to use". And: "We are ... We can ...!"
But what really made the NRF skirmish association?
Are sent to us from the Department of Defense explosive documents. It's about the internal reporting of a stage manager in January, has visited this unit. He reveals serious shortcomings.
Thus, soldiers of the battle Association complained about the "absence of equipment (vehicles, weapons, etc)." There was the night vision device Lucie a "failure of 76 percent" of the arms P8 were missing and 41 percent of the MG3 machine guns were missing 31 percent.
For this combat vehicle provided the weapons are even "100 percent" does not exist.
Conclusion of the report:
Quote:
"The training necessary to obtain the necessary action and security experience for a possible use could not be carried out."
It continues:
Quote:
"If the material is not available, the NRF-order (...) can not be fulfilled."
He is the founder of the NATO Response Force. We show former General Harald Kujat the internal report. He is horrified at what condition the German NRF battle group now had to compete - and in times of crisis.
Harald Kujat
Original sound, Harald Kujat, General a. D .:
"This association is supposed in no time at any place where there is a threat to member states, occur, come into use. And if that's not guaranteed, then that is a huge embarrassment for both NATO, but also for the Federal Republic of Germany. "
Particularly embarrassing are the unarmed combat vehicles for the German Army. An explosive incident to be so well concealed. And in this multinational NATO exercise "Noble Ledger" in Norway, a few months ago. There, the Bundeswehr could no longer hide their equipment deficiencies.
In the report before us is described:
Quote:
"... That the pipe was simulated on the weapon system of the GTK BOXER with black of painted broomstick during exercise (...) in Norway, since no barrels for the weapon system was available."
In desperation the German soldiers had so broomsticks black paint and assemble so that the boxers ever looked like a combat vehicle. For the German soldiers was "shameful" over other nations.
And the problem is not yet solved:
Quote:
"To date, the association has no barrels for the weapon system."
Original sound, Harald Kujat, a General D.:
"I've never experienced something that I must say in all honesty. But for the soldiers involved of course this is a situation that can not be beat in embarrassment. "
According to our research of Inspizientenbericht landed on the desk of Inspector General Volker Wieker. What could he read there was a disaster. In this state can not be installed and used on such short notice, the Association, as the NATO it claims.
The report solves bustle of the Ministry of Defence. According to our information took place immediately the order that should not get a line to the press, especially not the broomstick use. Shredding began.
Because the report does not fit as to the image that conveys the Ministry outwards: the NRF battle group is ready for use. He was even certified and equipped with a seal of quality.
Original sound, Harald Kujat, a General D.:
"I really can not explain how to, first, how to certify such an association. And secondly, how can the German view now say: We take responsibility. "
We ask the Ministry of Defence, ask specific questions about the equipment deficiencies. The Ministry refers to the certification, but does not answer any questions about the issues.
But our research result: To close the gaps in the NATO Response Force, material must be deducted from other units permanently now. The formation of the remaining units would be severely impaired.
While the NRF-unit battles with the list of deficiencies, the defense minister has imposed new challenges to the soldiers: The Association will also form the super fast spearhead of NATO.
Original sound, Ursula von der Leyen, CDU, Federal Minister of Defence:
"This is yet another degree of readiness. More exercise activity, more unknown territory, because we are in a way those who are scouting for NATO's spearhead. And all 28 NATO members look at this troop. "
A force that pulls currently on maneuvers with broomsticks.
Abmoderation Fritz Frey:
As our research was remembered today, the Ministry of Defence has said again. For this exercise, the arming of the vehicles was not necessary. Well, if that were so, the soldiers and the stage manager must have well understood something very wrong.
