New unit called Falcon commando unit under PAP command.猎鹰突击队 is the chinese name. Not sure if it is renaming of the old snow leopard unit or new. CCTV is trying to pitch it as new counter terrism unit. There is a video online of the unit commander and xi jinping at the flag handover ceremony.

The news say that this is a new semi-autonomous unit that is directly under the supervision of the NSC. The unit is tasked with counter terrorism nationwide and is equipped with its own intelligence apparatus.

There's some police exhibition going on in China. Interesting that it was displaying an armed Harrier II UAV model and SAMs for the police.

WOW, are you sure they are PLA?? The pic looks way too blurry and even the face is blurred out - although the guy on the right looks like he was wearing the Type 07 Oceanic Camouflage, and the 3 paratroopers looks like they were wearing the Type 07 Woodland Camouflage.
Their equipments looks very modern and western though, without looking at the camos I can't really tell if they are from PLA or not.

This is what PLA's "previous" HALO jump equipments look like:

See how much of a difference that is?

Could be special unit. This was done as part of a simulated exercise where it is expected that the J-20s (once in service) can be used to tear a hole in the enemy's defense, and this would then be followed by HALO insert operations at key points. I can't make out the weapons that they carry if any though.

Also, aren't HALOs conducted at altitudes where an oxygen mask is necessary and oxygen needs to be inhaled for about half an hour prior to insert operations? That does not seem to be the case with the pic in your post above.

That looks like a high altitude static line jump because I can see the line chute hooking up. Who know's it could be still be a HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) jump instead.

The new picture looks like it could be older western HALO or HAHO, but I could also accept that being new PLA gear. the photo you produced Ultra is not Halo, it's a conventional line jump. the critical tells are the line that equation mentioned but also the lack of breathing apparatus and gloves. at the altitudes of a HALO or HAHO air is thin and temperature is dangerously cold unless your crew is made up entirely of sherpas, altitude sickness, cold temperatures would mean that the jumpers would be hyperventilating and frost bit before opening in a Halo. and hanging in a HAHo at high altitude would make matters worse.

That picture is just PLA regulars doing basic static line parachute qualifications, out of a Mi171 helicopter if my eyes are not deceiving me.

That is a world of difference from a HALO jump, which are typically only conducted by special forces operators on account of the risks involved and the cost of the equipment necessary as well as the lengthen training needed to prepare someone for it.

The PLA guys looks to have modern gear, but I reject the notion that its 'western'. The west does not hold a monopoly on modern or cool looking equipment. Just because the PLA are not using Soviet style equipment does not mean they are adopting a 'western' style either.

I think that the vast majority of PLA pictures and videos officially released are of them using training gear. If and when they are called up for real operational deployments, the equipment the men are issued with a much newer and better.

During the Sichuan earthquake for example, there were a few quick images of PLA airborne recon units jumping in as the first wave and they had some very modern looking equipment.
