Why are you so serious in the "Crazy Ideas" thread?
If I was serious I would have posted somewhere else.

All I did was poke at the idea that you said it was possible. I didn't look at it as serious. The article is a non-story meant to trick people hence why I said I can sell you a bridge.

"He believes a combat capable mech working just like in Gundam cartoons is a reality. "

I then suggest not put words in other people's mouth from now on, I have never mentioned nor have I ever believed of a "Combat capable mecha" of that size to become a reality.

There is a simple equation in which suggest a limit to bi/quad pedal mechanism to walk in which if you know the limit of how much muscle tissue (actuator) can exert strength per square cm then you can calculate the limit in height a mechanism can reach due to the square/cube differential equation in which amount of muscle is proportional to diameter square of the leg muscle but weight is proportional to cube height.

Simply put the weight of a mecha quickly becomes heavier then the power of the actuator to support as you extend height.

I do believe that a bipedal mecha(large size armored exoskeleton) at a height of around five meters may become a reality in the future utilizing Asimo's walking algorithm attached to balancing gyros and the operator wearing a HMD with augmented reality displaying various parameters but it will take sometime.

As for RPGs there are already various countermeasures to minimize risk like the one being developed by TRDI utilizing infrared sensors to detect incoming.

You know Blue you just gave me A crazy idea, that might not be so Crazy.
I don't think a Bipedal manned platform is such a great idea particularly large ones, and especially humanoid. But as you brought it up I remembered watching a video earlier today that I will post later of a robot shaped like and sized like a true Velocaraptor. This though brought me back to my younger years and the transformers particularly a later series called beast wars. In which the Autobots and Decepticons had evolved into the Maximals and Predicons and both used animal forms not cars. Now some UAVs used in photo reconnaissance are occasionally shaped and painted like Birds. Now what if that was applied to unmanned ground vehicles. I mean I earlier imagined in the powered armor thread a unmanned platform shaped like a TRex or insect/Spider/Scorpion for use in active combat.
Imagine a UGV shaped and camouflaged like a animal. Its sole function to gather Intel. In Beast wars the Maximals were Optimus Primal shaped like a Mountain Gorilla, Cheetor shaped like a Cheetah, Rinox like a Rino, Tigatron like a Siberian Tiger, and Rat trap like well his name says it all. There was also Harazor who was a Harrier but limiting to the ground. A robot like a Mountain Gorilla could be inserted into the Mountains of African war zones and be the lone Gorilla hunting Guerrillas. Pun intended. A medium sized Cat like robot could prowl Africa, North Central and South American trouble spots being slightly redressed to play as local Fauna. A Cougar in the Americas, a Leopard or a Cheetah in Africa. A larger one playing Lion or Tiger in Africa or Asia. A Rino or Hipo shaped drone could act in a amphibious operations in Africa and a Crocodile shaped unit globally.
A spy agency could insert there animal-Drone near suspect Enemy forces and operations. The drone would then take up position and even imitate there beast mode well streaming media to their HQ. The enemy wouldn't know what was happening unless they attacked the bot. Wildlife conservation groups could also use a drone like these to decoy Poachers.

:roll:How's this for crazy;

and who said Mecha was impossible in real life. LoL

Look at those contradicting statements in bold. What you described ain't no Gundam as the article mentions to which is the point.

So who did say mecha was impossible in real life? Was there a grand debate over this somewhere? Or are you just referring to the thread talking about it in this forum? If so, then don't misrepresent what was discussed over there because no one said something like that was impossible. It's just not practical for combat to what is Gundam for again...?

I am not contradicting at all.
Do you know what armored exoskeletons are?
Yeah the ones that the US and other military are doing research.
Well if the person was around 180 cm then with all the power supply, sensors, armor, environment control and actuators fitted into the exoskeleton, the overall height would be around 250~300cm if you place weapons on it the overall height would be around 400cm.
No matter how much you try to miniaturize when placing all the required equipment it becomes to a certain size.
One more reason why you what a certain height is to minimize damage from IEDs and mines in which although the mechanical foot may sustain damage the operator will not due to space gap between the actual feet and the ground.

As I stated you don't need nor feasible in making an over-sized mecha but if you believe that military exoskeletons are the way of the future then it will become a certain size beyond the average human size.

One of the first application would probably be in space for EVA and mission on other planets since present space suits has various limitations that cannot be overcome with the present soft-shell type.

Aren't you the one that brought up Gundam and mecha in the same post? You're the one connecting the two. Go back and look for yourself. You're now arguing for something you said if you were serious, you wouldn't post in here. Sounds like you're serious with whatever you're not calling a mecha. The contradiction is quite clear. If you weren't talking about mecha, what were you talking about then to say...

and who said Mecha was impossible in real life. LoL

And remember you posted that article about Japan building a Gundam with it.

Exo-skeleton, armored, 5 meters high...? And why is it armored if not for combat? What did you say you weren't serious about?

The Classic Flying Car. Personally I don't think Flying cars will every really become mainstream but for some parts of the world like Alaska where you need a Aircraft to get around. I can see it.
