The new generation of Chinese subs will be much quieter then those from the past. With the introduction of 3D printing, better design using super computers, improved sound dampening technology, better tools to create rotors and propellers and quieter engines. It could be a huge leap from the past. However it will take a long time before China can build subs that are as quiet as the most advanced versions from Europe or the US.

Now if PN switched to Chinese SSK with AIP there must be substance there, otherwise a compromise on equipment is not a opition for PN, not a big ticket item like submarine.

So I guess Chinese AIP is probably quite reasonable that is really my point
My understanding is that they were looking at the Sterling engine and developing something similar. No doubt the PLAN has a design that meets their need...and perhaps not so much endurance or cost as the German system

If the Pakistan requirement can be filled by the new PLAN system, they will probably get their needs fulfilled for a lot less cost.

I believe that the last two or three Yuans are the only ones with AIP, so it is still relatively new.

There are three sides with AIP: the machine you use, as fuel cell or Sterling engine, the fuel, as LOX and LH2 or hydrogen peroxide and some other fuel, and how do you get rid of the reaction product(s). What do we know about the fuels chosen and is there something special about handling the reaction products?

Two 091 SSN in the same pier. This photo is published in the magazine, "Modern Ship", 2013 October A version.

I must say the differences are pretty big. Almost as if its likelier the recent statement about chinese 4th gen submarine really could be interpreted like this: 091- first gen. 091g- second gen. 093 and 093b - third gen, 095 fourth gen.
