That is a very nice little ship! As well as the PLAN coast guard is also getting lots of ships, good move to keep work for the shipyards in this economic times, build up the security when the economy's of the world get better China will have in place a good maritime force to secure ship lanes

Those are nice looking cutters. As others have said, IMHO, they should be better armed, like with a 57 or 76 mm main gun and a couple of 25 or 40 mm secondary guns and some minimal AAW self defense.

The recently launched Hai Jing 2401 and 3401 are the first of a class of four, which again is part of the 20-ship state-level Coast Guard construction programme. The 1,000 and 1,500 ton ships previously built by Huangpu were part of the 36-ship provincial-level construction programme (though they are renumbered like state-level ships after commissioning).

China has made a conscious decision not to arm these ships (though I think provision has no doubt been made for eventual armament).

Are those two really 4,000 tons? Doesn't look like it

Concur it's a conscious decision though I think adding some water cannons wouldn't hurt. It would help make them less "aggressive" when dealing with fishermen if they fired water instead of flares or warning shots. That's being spun in the media.

Japan arms its CG ships with real cannons, so there shouldn't be any reasons why China CG can't be similarly armed.
