Then I hope we see her soon with 8-10 aboard. Perhaps on the long cruise this fall we have heard about.

It would be great to see her operating with 8-10 SU-33s aboard and I look forward to seeing those pictures.

So far the most we have seen are two...and possibly three, though we have not seen three at once.

J-15 cockpit:

Those LCD displays are very nice.

It seems that the only thing restricting the number of J-15s operating onboard is the qualification of pilots.

LCD displays don't have much to do with J-15s operating either.
But on the subject of cockpits, J-15's actually looks a bit backwards compared to more recent jets of a similar era like advanced super hornet, Su-35, F-16E, or even J-10B.

The most integral part of a modern cockpit would be the millions of lines of code typed for it. As of now the cockpit doesn't look like it's behind the game, and looks almost comparable to the one on the J-10B.

... Yet those are both limitations as serious, if not more so, than the number of qualified pilots PLAN has, in relation to the liaoning's ability to operate large numbers of aircraft.

Otherwise you can argue the number of qualified pilots isn't a limitation either, because that can be slowly improved just by training more of them.

Definitely true, for instance the F-22 has a cockpit with 4 individual screens instead of a panoramic display like the F-35 or advanced super hornet, or even the 3 large screens of J-10B and JF-17, but we should really use a common metric to compare them, and bringing in the invisible software component is a way to retain a sense that an inferior looking cockpit may not reflect its true combat potential.
So based purely on looks, it appears J-15's cockpit is a virtual transplant of J-11B's 5 mfd layout.
