It could be that the PLA has decided to go back to the proven reliability of the AL31 for the J15 and J10B for the extra insurance since one is China's first carrier fighter and the other is a single engined bird. With SAC seeming focused on J15 production for the moment, that should give Liming ample time to find the problem and rectify it.

The way I see it time for J-10B is now . J-10B is a 4.5 generation fighter and this is their decade (although we already have F-22 operational) . From 2020. there would be much more fifth-generation fighters in various air forces , and planes like J-10B would become second-class . After 2020 PLAAF could not rely on them to form backbone of China's air-defense and potential buyers would be poor cash-strapped countries (countries that now buy second-hand fourth gen planes) .

Therefore , as WS-10 seems to be last stumbling block for J-10B , it would be prudent to proceed without it and to continue to use AL-31 for a time being so that PLAAF could get first operational examples as soon as possible .

Especially if we consider that both the AL-31FN and the WS-10B seem to be easily interchangeable as demonstrated by the J-15 prototype '554' with its AL-31F & WS-10A change during the recent carrier trails.

You know sometimes I'm left very concerned and even confused

The Sharpe Sword UCAV is a flying wing and tailless design, one of the hardest problems in aerodynamic design and flight control, flying wings are a holy grail in the aviation aeronautics and a very tough problem to solve

Yet Chinese engineers have shown this example, yet still it was fitted with RD-03, likewise the J10B is a fantastic design and I would rank it up there with the Typhoon and Rafale, yet we see AL-31

I wish I could know the inter works and problems the Chinese turbofans are facing

I would caution making such a conclusion for the J10B until we see evidence of that. The gearbox position is different on the AL31FN compared to the AL31F after all. What works for a Flanker might not necessarily work on a J10. I would say the odds are very good that the engines are also interchangeable on the J10, but it is not yet a demonstrable fact and a distinction should make made.
