But this is an old fashioned Y-8 platform with four-bladed propellers. How old is it?
Yes, but that's not the point. The interesting part is the new radar, which is a fixed three-part radar array similar to the KJ-2000's radar and not as previously mounted on that bird a rotodome.
If the new rumoured KJ-300/-500 will still rely on the venerable Y-8/-9 I can't tell You ...

This is the testbed they used for the old ZDK03 radar as well I believe. It's definitely not a production or even preproduction aircraft.

Right that means China will have a large rotodome, a medium sized balance beam and a medium sized rotodome
That is great because for a situation which requires eyes in the sky but not a flown blown large AWACS the medium sized AWACS is a good more economical solution, AWACS are expansive to fly so cutting down the cost by having a medium sized is a good choice
