Kilos are known as "Pier Queens" or "碼頭王" in chinese.

older Song and Ming on other hand gets to do cool things like following US exercises, and doing rounds around Japan. No wonder ONI thinks Chinese subs are noisy.

Navy unaware of Chinese subs

The Navy is unaware of the presence of Chinese submarines close to Sri Lankan waters as was reported in the Indian media today.

A navy official told the Colombo Gazette however that submarines, like foreign ships, can move in international waters off Sri Lanka without the consent of the Sri Lanka navy.

Headlines Today reported that the Indian Navy has strong indications that a fleet of Chinese nuclear submarines is making frequent forays into the Indian Ocean.

The report said that 22 such Chinese operations have been recorded, one as recently as February, 2013. One submarine was spotted near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Headlines Today has exclusive access to a report from the Indian Navy to the Defence Ministry that says 22 unknown submarine contacts were detected by Indian and U.S sonar in the Indian Ocean.

The assessment is that China is the only other navy capable of operating in the area. The assessment has been confirmed by U.S. and Indian intelligence inputs.

The extent of Chinese submarines’ unchallenged forays into the Indian Ocean can be deeply troubling for the Indian Navy.

Headlines Today said that one contact with a suspected Chinese submarine took place just 90 km from Indian soil in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

It also said that six contacts took place north-west of the Straits of Malacca, 13 south of Sri Lanka and two as far as the Arabian Sea.

The first such Chinese submarine was spotted on sonar in August 2012 during a patrol of Indian and U.S. navy ships, confident that they are the only two navies operating in the southern part of the Indian Ocean.

According to the report, the People’s Liberation Army’s naval wing is deploying the state-of-the art nuclear submarines on a 10,000-mile deepwater run. The launch location is Sanya in the South China Sea.

Official sources say the Chinese submariners could be preparing to sneak into India’s backyard, test Indian Navy’s conviction in keeping them out and probably pioneer a permanent presence in the Indian Ocean region.

My question is wouldn't they definitely know if they were Chinese subs? I mean aren't there suppose to be Sea Wolf submarines parked off Chinese submarine bases recording and identifying all of China's submarines? How about following as they say?

My question is wouldn't they definitely know if they were Chinese subs?

But didn't they already say the subs were chinese?
Any way each time I read this kind of information about subs operations I take it with a grain of salt.

1 only three Seawolf class were built so that would eat them up from other missions.
2 the subject was the navies of Indian and Sri Lanka not the US.
3 if a american boat was shadowing a Chinese boat its unlikely that the USN would be reporting it to everyone, as that could tip off the PLAN to the shadow placing the crews lives at risk. also it could give other players in the area a chance to sound profile an American boat for ASW training and targeting. An act that would be tantamount to mounting a neon sign to the mast of all the Boats of her class.

The article says 22 unknown submarine contacts made by the Indian and US navies. How would they know that the US was detecting subs? The US would've had to told them and if they did why not say they definitely know instead of suspecting it? You'd figure if the taunting of how superior US subs are compared to Chinese and even claimed that US subs (including Sea Wolf) are just sitting off of China's sub bases collecting data on noisy Chinese subs... wouldn't they definitely know they're Chinese subs instead of concluding through deduction? One of my points if you didn't get is the possibility whole thing is a lie hence why I can bring up so many suspicious questions.
