Don't sweat it. Realists will completely agree with you. China has come a long way, but has a long way to go.

What gets us (or me, since I can't speak for anyone else) riled up is how certain people insinuate that China cannot do this or that, because of innate characteristics of Chinese-ism. Basically, racism.

Also amusing is the clear straw-grasping that some people do in the face of evidence for Chinese progress. This is rather pathetic and actually hilarious to watch in action.

But, taking a step back, both of these phenomenon are good. The less they understand, the more complacent they are. What would be far more frightening is clear-eyed and sober analysis of Chinese capabilities and trends. Hence I am surprised that sites like this one is not under constant attack by red hackers.

Probably PRC still behind US but definitely not behind Russia or Europe in aeronautical engine.

hardly so, China is doing JV with France for helo engines, and buying engines for H-6Ks from Russia (setting the AL-31 aside, which is another different matter)

and there is no RR company/Trent engines equivalent yet in China, yet
Snecma is also a highly respectable company in the field
let's see if all that investment on AVIC engine ventures will bear fruit in the near future

this China can/cant do talk is spreading all over the threads

Yes, with one engineering class at a time and plenty of money to support research and development, with discipline and creative thoughts to solve any problems. In high tech competition there is no absolute finish line, but an endless marathon to advance further and farther than any one else for the lead, and the lead changes all the time.

Such a sizable lead yet no one from the Western areo space manufacturer still couldn't make a copy of China's Df-21D ASBM?

The DF-21D is vaporware. No test has ever been reported of the missile being fired at a ship sized target.

Why should it be impossible for China to overtake those aircraft manufacturers? The next question is "When?" and then the answer is "I don't know". But remember the Lexington class flattops of the early '20's still used steam turbine electric propulsion because US industry was not able to produce the gears between the steam turbines and the propeller shafts. Did that signify that the US would be unable to overhaul the UK?

As for "How" the answer is by diligent work.

Well consider this: While Chinese aerospace is working diligently to overtake manufacturers with a lead, those same manufacturers will be working just as hard and as diligently to maintain that lead.

Hard work is not just confined to China.

Probably,i shall be more specific. I mean in area of aircraft engine not helo engine.. As for large aircraft enine, its more of neglience rather than lacking of it.

And the DF-21D is a perfect boogie man to point to when budget time rolls around. Think is through.

it is still a more valid point than your opinion

well, aircraft engines as well, helo engines design+manufacturing is part of the same aeronautical engineering discipline, aero engines

that is why Comac's C919 with new indigenous engine is a very important effort to push China ahead in this field

Actually, imo, quite a large percentage of the Chinese (in China) do not know about all these negative comments in some foreign media(sometimes no thanks to the block access in the internet) about their technological progress. My opinion is all these negative comments should be translated into Chinese and put into the Chinese media. I'm sure the scientists and engineers in China will take this as a challenge and will try to work 10 times harder to prove what other nations can do, they can do the same or even better. This could be a better motivation to anything the Chinese can think of in their push for technological and scientific progress. :)

Again, pushing the fringe of new technology goes at a slower pace than catching up with old ones. This is true of every industry, and its why countries eventually close technology gaps. There's no doubt those same manufacturers are working hard to create new stuff, but it takes more time to discover, test, and build the tools for new technology than it does to figure out and build old ones.
