India is indeed going totally western. Aside from upgrading their MIG29s, they're buying P8 Poseidons, C130Js and Rafales. So probably, the SU35 is out of the question for now.

Americans usually joke about buying Chinese, but Russians don't do that, and there are many who are just really butthurt about China's progress

and yeah Su-35 is still expecting export customers, shoddy business practices (read : how they treat India, and everyone else) sure does not help with their reputation, even if the hardware is great

like they say, buy Western, pay expensive upfront and suck it up, or buy Russian with cheap price and suffer with after sales

if russian and chinese leadership were more global in their thinking, and better strategists in the new great game, they'd involve their diplomatic and technical corps more proactively in the iran-nuclear situation. should that dilemma be resolved without armed conflict, and with the removal of un sanctions, iran would become, immediately, both a potential fulcrum for politico/economic leverage in the region and an ideal market for a variety of military hardware packages, including, and especially, a order of 4 to 4++ gen multi-role combat aircraft. under present circumstances, russia is best positioned to exploit this market as the chinese military aircraft inductry is hobbled by lagging turbofan development and production issues.

simply put, in the very near term, iran could potentially be a market for ~ 200 - 250 su-35/mk2.

in the longer term, iran could potentially be a market for ~ 200 - 250 fc-20.

Even if Iran had the best fighter available on the market, without a potent network of anti aircraft defense and AWACS there's no way its air force can survive a NATO air invasion.

india is planing to import 250 fgfa. they have also plan for a total of 272 mki's. and, they may increase original order for the mrca (rafale) tender by 64 aircraft, from 126 to 190. japan has imported more than 200 f-15s. israel has imported more than 200 f-16's. saudi arabia has imported and ordered more than 200 f-15's.
