Kung Fu Movies!

We have a Star Wars and Sci-Fi thread, but no Kung Fu movie thread? Time to rectify that!

Anyone else tired of all those Wire-Fu crap coming out lately? When are they going to go back to the good old "real" martial arts choreography like Huang Feihong and Shaolin Temple?

Probably the best (relatively speaking) kung fu movie I've seen lately is Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Li's portrayal of the Monkey King isn't that great (at least not to someone who grew up with the 80's TV-series of Journey to the West), but the fight scenes and character designs were pretty awesome. The only questionable part was, as one reviewer put it, "who invited the white guy?". :)

When I was stationed in the Philippines, long before most of you were born , Kung-Fu movies were a staple of entertainment.

Once my ex-wife and myself saw this Kung-Fu movie named in English.."A Girl named Tiger"..what a bloodbath. This was in '75 or '76. I cannot find a clip of the film.

The best Kung Fu movie is always Bruce Lee, my favorite is Enter the Dragon. Very classic movie

Please note Bruce Lee' movies had no special effects or stunt men, Bruce Lee did it all

Another my favorite classic movies The Drunken Master and The Shaolin Temple

Modern Movies

1st. Hero (Jet Li)
2nd. Once Upon a Time in China (3 series), also Jet Li
3rd. Red Cliff (not fully Kung Fu)
4th. IP Man

The Drunken Master..I may have seen that. Was that the one where a man was a guardian of the wine in Buddha heaven and drank so much wine when he had to pee he peed in an empty wine jug. Then one day he accidentally served the pee to Buddha(I think) and was sent back to Earth to prove himself???. Any way I saw a movie like that and it was hilarious.

I thought "The Drunken Master" was one of the most iconic films that Jackie Chan made.

I just rewatched Huang Feihong 2 (Once Upon a Time in China) on Tudou the other day, and damn that movie was awesome. The plot was tight, the romance and the humor was just right and the fight scenes were top notch. It even had Zhang Tieling as Sun Yat-Sen. I was like, WTF???

I don't remember Jackie Chan acted in a movie with that storyline. The one you saw was probably another movie.

Overall, I think Jackie Chan's movies are most entertaining for Kung fu, because there is enough humor to punctuate the action. One of my favorites is "Wheels on Meals". "Project A" and "Project A II" are both excellent, as well as "Operation Condor" and "Legend of Drunken Master" as previously mentioned. Other classic Kung fu flicks I think are "Master of the Flying Guillotine", "Iron Monkey", "The Tai-Chi Master".

very entertaining classic Kung Fu movie by Chen Leung ... after the movie he became a mega Kung Fu star ... ohh well ... Jackie Chen was helped by the death of Bruce Lee ... if Bruce Lee was alive ... no way Jackie Chen could become a mega star
