The Civil War in Libya

The "frame up" suggestion doesn't wash anymore, they have more or less admitted it. Its not the first time China blames rogue companies for doing things behind their back. Remember the excuses they gave when accused of selling missile technology to NK Iran etc . One would think that after those episodes the CEO's of all companies involved in military production/research would be read the riot act.

" The next one caught doing things that are contrary to Chinas best interest's stops a bullet.

"In an interview with Reuters, a spokeswomen from the Chinese Foreign Ministry says that there were talks between the Gaddafi government and 'several' state owned Chinese arms manufacturers of the sale of weapons to Libya "

If you're thinking that it's only a PRC issue, guess again:

From the same article:

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Libya's new leadership has evidence Muammar Gaddafi bought arms from companies in China and Western countries in defiance of U.N. sanctions and now plans legal and diplomatic action, a military spokesman said in Tripoli on Monday.
Reuters

"We'll be going through legal channels, through international courts, as well as the United Nations itself," Abdul Rahman Busin told Reuters. "Either to prosecute them or to come to a diplomatic understanding."

He did not specify further what action might be taken against firms, individuals or states involved in any smuggling.

"We have gathered evidence from many sources, including the main documents that were gathered here in Tripoli, that point the finger at several countries that had been supplying Gaddafi with weapons and arms, as well as intelligence officers," he said.

"They had their own mercenaries who were helping them, but whether the mercenaries were directly linked to governments or (were) private individuals is still unclear," Busin added.

Earlier on Monday, China responded to the publication by a newspaper of documents that appeared to show Chinese state firms offered Gaddafi weaponry by confirming some staff had met Libyan envoys in July but without the government's knowledge.

"We've been gathering information for months now," Busin said. He declined to name the nationalities of those suspected of trying to supply Gaddafi but confirmed some were Chinese and that the proposed route for imports passed through Algeria.

Asked if Westerners also offered arms, he said they did.

Rather than waste their limited money on another 5th gen aircraft, by husbanding their financial resources they can concentrate on developing UCAV's and all supporting technology.
Theyre also learning from China mate, rather than getting sucked into a one for one situation, just come up with effective counters.

The Russians would be fielding UCAVs long before the Euros ever get to the prototype stage at this point, let alone US or China.

Thanks for the video. Since these UAV's will be operated with the help of a guided satellite systems, do you think NATO will use the US GPS or their newer Galileo satellite navigation system?

If the Galileo System lived up to its technical promise without any ongoing problems and France had its way, then I would probably think they would go for Galileo.

However I can't say that with a great deal of conviction/certainty because I don't know the rules governing it's usage. With the environment around the Galileo being so political Nato might just decide to stick with the U.S. G.P.S. At least you know what you going to get. ( I think, and by the way isnt the U.S. coming out with an updated system to match what Galileo offers.)

As NATO is owned by the US it will of course use G.P.S, even it might also use Galileo or any other system.

They could. But I was referring to general decline in purchases of new hardware. Alot of evidence that shows Britain is cutting back on big purchases. Nimrod is one example.

Since UK does not see China as a threat, unlike the US, the MOD will have to convince the people who hold the wallet to buy a 5 th gen UCAV, when a 5th Gen F-35 is good enough.

Well, it looks like a gang-betrayal now. Powerhouses all doing military business with a regime-in-war as of some kind of default took place among each of the player to play-fair, when things were still smooth; and when things boils up, China, the one who didn't even made a solid sold yet, has been "caught", and everybody just wish all the blame to fall on it solely - How UNTIMELY someone jumps out and indicates everyone have a share in this business.
