Re: New Generation Fighter

Aside from the fact that it is unlikely China would allow spy sats to see it, it is an interesting photo.

It is probably a PS, but it's odd in the sense that it is unlike any PS I've seen before...an overhead shot. And the plane looks approximately like the design we have been expecting.

Whoever made it (if it was fabricated) is more knowledgeable than most PSers

Yea, for some reason it seems more real than other fan arts. This does have some significant differences with the most popular CG's though. The wings "curl back" at the tip, the canard isn't swept backward, and the nose looks skinnier.

Also, just wondering, with the U.S. having so many satellites, how can you conduct trials while avoiding them? You do have to leave the plane out for hours at a time, no?

Re: New Generation Fighter

I agree with dingyibvs: No one conducts night time trials with new prototype aircraft, as an example, taxi trials and also first flights - just the safety factor alone would dictate daylight trials. Even as secret as the US's stealth fighter and technology demonstrator operated in daylight (i.e. Have Blue; F-117A; and Tacit Blue) are good examples. They all did taxi and flights in daylight - it was when the F-117A went operational at Tonopah did it operate at night. And with so many spysats in orbits it would be next to impossible to hide anything from them - and at the same time keep schedules of testing. So therefore it does seem to be real and not faked. It is however of lower resolution than US spysat capabilities though.

Re: New Generation Fighter

I checked with google maps and see if the pic of the runway could've come from there. If it is then it's very well done, as close comparison between their images of the runway and this one reveal many differences.

Some basic drawings and "fan art" of the Chengdu J-20. The person seems to be knowledgable about the Chengdu 611 JXX project

Re: New Generation Fighter

I did a quick analyses of the size of the aircraft in the picture using google maps and the number 20 as a ruler, the length turns out to be ~21 meters long.

21 meters puts it in the size of the YF-23. At 21 meters equals about 68.8 feet - though still smaller than the J-11/Su-27.

Very nice. I did my own analysis in photoshop, I am pretty handy with photoshop, what is interesting is that if it were a ps, the person knew what he was doing. The plane casts a shadow on the ground, which many CG artists forget.

There also is no evidence of tampering with the photo that I can find, but it is too blurry to say for sure. It could be a model...

Re: New Generation Fighter

The resolution appears to be less than 1-meter but still blurry. And the resolution of the runway is the same as that for the aircraft. If it is a model, it's a very large one - perhaps the actual mockup of the aircraft??? Or it could very well be the aircraft itself!

I meant that it could be some guy in his basement that took a photo of a model on a fake runway, the blurred it in photoshop to make it look genuine.
