It should be their responsibility to ensure they implement the strictest measures to prevent their users from falling for scams . Obviously being a private business they care more about revenue/profits which is normal, just like alibaba, pindoudou etc have been tolerating scams/fake/counterfeit/and even harzardous goods on their platforms to prioritize revenues/profits. I don’t blame them, it’s the government job to make sure companies adhere to rules/regulation, in this aspect I think only the EU is really trying to enforce them on tech companies .
anyway, even if they lost that, it won’t be the end of the world , Facebook will continue her operations globally like before, they have no real presence in China anyway. So no real loss per se there . They can still live without this scam ads revenue , obviously won’t be ideal of them.

Point being that Facebook does have something at stake here, and will pay a price if it does not comply with government directives. Which is presumably why they are preparing to comply.

Deepseek V4 apparently set off a scramble for Ascend orders from competitors.

BEIJING, April 29 (Reuters) - Demand for Huawei's Ascend 950 AI chips has surged following the

of DeepSeek's V4 artificial intelligence model that runs on the Shenzhen-based tech firm's chips, with major Chinese internet firms rushing to secure orders, three people familiar with the matter said. China's biggest internet firms including ByteDance, Tencent

are reaching ‌out to Huawei about new chip orders, said the sources, who are familiar with the procurement discussions. Companies specializing in cloud computing and graphics processing unit (GPU) rental services are also scrambling to place orders, two of the sources added, without providing the names of the firms.

The scramble for Huawei's chips underscores how DeepSeek's V4 release last week has turbocharged demand for domestic Chinese AI hardware as U.S. export controls continue to restrict access to Nvidia's most advanced processors. It is also an endorsement of the performance of Huawei's chips so far. DeepSeek's decision to optimize its V4 specifically for Huawei's chips marks a strategic shift away from American semiconductor dependence and more towards China's homegrown AI gear, which is a priority for Beijing as it seeks tech supremacy.

my comment on this. It seems to me that these firms were always going to purchase Atlas clusters, but now that DeepSeek did the hard work of getting 950DT to work for CPT and post training, it gives them more desire to do so.

from someone that actually uses Kimi 2.6 for real work & business. This is the kind of stuff people should listen to about certain models instead of a disgruntled former ByteDance employee. I use K2.6 for my normal programming and it's great.

my experience with K2.6 is that it pretty much does everything I need it to do. The only issue is that since I'm using the free online version, it often runs out of token when I request it to do complex tasks. I guess I need to start paying money.

The most ironic thing about that interview is that he criticizes Chinese models for benchmaxxing while praising Google's culture. But no one uses Gemini for coding or agent tasks despite its high benchmarks.

CFR article on DeepSeek v4, basically defending their pre-existing position:

is there any reason to post this? If we disagree with their clownish views. What is the point of posting stuff like this except working people up? I'm deleting anything related to this.

Deepseek with new AI vision function to process images and video.
A/B testing and limited to images. Unfortunately, I wasn't given the opportunity to test it.

Based on current information, the visual model cannot perform online searches, and its error rate isn't particularly outstanding, but very fast and its world knowledge seems very deep. I'm curious about how they achieved this.
