The first shipments of iron ore from the Simandou mine in Guinea have arrived in China, marking that the long delayed project has finally moved into the stage of actual exports. Simandou is one of the world’s largest high grade iron ore deposits, developed by an international consortium including Chinese companies, and the shipments were transported using newly built rail and port infrastructure. This confirms that the mine has begun operating as a real supply source going forward.
According to Chinese Foreign Ministry, 3 ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz.
