The War in the Ukraine

Ok, I was maybe wrong about the oil, but idk about the advantage ratio I think it depends more on the fronts, but ether way hitting oil refiners is very effective tatic, they recently hit the 6th largest one in Russia with 3 drones. Ukraine also makes their own drones so they aren’t totally reliant on Europe for those as much as they are for other weapons. And like I said before Ukraine has enough drones to focus on both the frontlines and the oil refineries. Ether way Ukraine mass attacking Russias biggest oil factories what I think is 4-5 or more ones this week is definitely a big deal

Seriously just three drones?

This is what it took for the USAF to damage --- yes damage as it was back in weeks --- to damage the Ploesti oil refineries in Romania during the Second World War. Checked with Gemini.

"Approximately 177 to 178 B-24 Liberator bombers were used in the Operation Tidal Wave raid on Ploesti, Romania, on August 1, 1943. Launching from Benghazi, Libya, these bombers targeted Axis oil refineries, with 54 aircraft and nearly 500 airmen failing to return, marking it as one of the costliest air missions in U.S. history.
History.com +3
Key Details of the August 1, 1943 Raid:
  • Total Bombers: 177–178 B-24 Liberators.
National Museum of the USAF (.mil) +2
  • Bombers Lost: 54 planes were lost (310 crew killed, 186 captured/missing).

  • Damage/Recovery: While the raid caused significant damage, the refineries returned to full production within week."

Over range each B-24 can deliver over 8000lbs, which is over 3500kg of bombs. But let's assume 8 x 500lb bombs for a standard layout. You still have over one hundred who got through. The refinery got working within a week.

A Lyuty drone only has like 50-60kg of explosive.

Those 3 drones caused a massive fire in the refinery, you can treat 5 attacks on oil refineries in a week as no big deal because it’s repairable but that’s not how reality works, should countries not bomb airbases as they can be repaired too? If the only reason you attack is to totally destroy a target then you end up losing the war. We can agree to disagree on if attacking oil refiners is a big deal or not. Also your comparing 1943 refineries attacks to 2026, if you did those same amount of bombings with modern bombs do you think it would be back in weeks?

Well, attack against refineries reqire lot of bombs.

Holes and tears simply welded back in days, spare pumps installed or just activated.

In refiuneries usually all equipment has redundancy and spares.

Don't frget ,the refinery running 300 celsius, high pressure petrol and diesel fuel in the pipes, throguht pumps and distillation equipments.

So , as a baseline they prepared for accidents , and expect them .

To make real damage you need lot of bombs. Carpet bombing, not pinpoint bombing.

Additionally, many of the equipment to damage require more precise hit thant expected from a smart ammunition.

Hi,
just a little off topic since Trump took over in USA, Russian are getting lots of targets as compare to post 2024 so it’s looks like USA & Russian have a unwritten pact you don’t scratch my back and will not your’s in terms of
Trump is bullying NATO about Ukrainian Russian war and not willing to do so infact it’s been decided before trump took over Russians will let go Cuba almost by all means and let USA take over including venezuela and Russia will get as much as they want to advance in Ukraine though this arrangement might change with the coming next president but until Trump it will go by this way.
thank you

A scene from the assault on a Ukrainian stronghold in the Zaporizhzhia region by soldiers of the Russian 38th Guards Brigade of the "East" group of forces. The Russian group, guided by UAVs, made a forced march behind Ukrainian units. The surrounded Ukrainian soldiers surrendered after the unit coming to their aid was destroyed by drones. Some of the captured soldiers are shown in the video.

Footage of a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber using an RBK-500 cluster munition bomb in Ukraine. The video was filmed in a forest belt near the village of Maryivka, in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. The RBK-500 bomb struck positions of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Note the continuous destruction zone; the RBK-500 bomb detonates, creating a cloud of 154,000 steel balls.
